Met my superior, turns out he's a lot like the last one

Kak: *on break at the guard house, roosting in Boromir's inbox and ducking his beak into a mug of coffee with 'world's best raven!' written on it in Awk's footwriting*

Alvegil: *approaches Boromir's desk* Are... you Captain Boromir? *looks at the Kak*

Kak: Maybe. Maybe. Who asks?

Alvegil: I was sent here to see him about being shown around the city by Sergeant Angwen. *frowns* Really, you're a bird?

Kak: Who says a bird can't be captain! Show some respect!

Alvegil: *is from Dol Amroth, all he really knows about birds is that swans are assholes* well. Er. Well, Captain, I was just assigned to work here.

Boromir: *walks into his office, sees the bird and frowns* Who are you? *looks at the human* And who are you? I'm Boromir, Captain of the guard and formerly of Gondor. What can I do to help you?

Alvegil: *accusing look at Kak*

Kak: Corporal Kak gotta go! *flies out quickly*

Alvegil: Hello, CAPTAIN. I'm Corporal Algevil. Of Dol Amroth. I was sent to you to be trained.

Boromir: *eyes the bird with narrowed eyes as he flies away* Nothing but trouble, that one. *gives Alvegil a grin* Lies like a bearskin rug. Good to meet you Corporal. *extends his hand* How long have you been in the city?

Alvegil: This city is odd enough I was willing to accept a bird as a captain of the guard. *shakes Boromir's hand* I've been here a few weeks. Getting my bearings.

Alvegil: I was a Swan Knight, with all that comes with it, and I was a bodyguard to Princess Finduilas before she left us for Gondor.

Boromir: *eyes flick up from his paper* Did you say Finduilas? *small smile* She was my mother.

Alvegil: *blinks* Really? *studies Boromir* Ah! Yes, you're handsome enough to be her son, certainly.

Boromir: *grins* Thank you. She was lovely...Some time, I would very much like to know about her life back in Dol Amroth. Now, though, tell me more about your skillset. I'm guessing you're more of a swordsman than an archer. yes?

Alvegil: I'll be happy to tell you all about her. We were friends, as much as royalty could be with a knight. And yes, my swordwork is much better than my archery. I'm adept with the spear as well, and my horsemanship is nothing to sneeze at.

Boromir: *takes notes* Great. We'll do a skills test later on this week to match you up with the most appropriate post. Right now, I think you may be best suited to work in or near the palace...unless there is something else you'd prefer to do.

Alvegil: I'd like to try patrol. It'll help me get better acquainted with the city and its workings.

Boromir: *takes a flip chart off the wall and thumbs through it* That works well, actually. We have a guard who was promoted to the outer perimeter patrol, and I could use someone to take his place on the inside. *makes a few marks* Right. *smiles* Welcome to the guard, Corporal Alvegil. Let's head down to the armory and get you outfitted and equipped.

Alvegil: are talking animals normal for the guard?

Boromir: *laughs and claps Alvegil on the shoulder* No. Commander Ecthelion uses them to gain information from time-to-time, but they're unreliable at best, bald-faced liars at worst. I try to avoid them if I can. One of those birds caused a lot of problems for a friend of mine.

Alvegil: I'll keep in mind not to give them an inch. I wonder what he had planned for me if I'd believed he was the captain longer than I did.

Boromir: There's no telling, but I doubt he could have caused too much trouble. You obviously have a good head on your shoulders if my mother trusted you.

Alvegil: *inclines his head* thank you. Was she happy with her new husband? She was excited before she left.

Boromir: *looks away* She loved Father and she loved my brother and me...but she was unhappy in Gondor. She missed being near the sea, and the shadows to the east frightened her. She died just after my tenth birthday.

Alvegil: *unhappy frown* but she was so excited... *hadn't expected this*

Boromir: I think she thought her love for Father would be enough, but in the end it wasn't. *looks sad* I wish I knew more about her life in Dol Amroth. We should have a drink sometime and you can tell me more.

Alvegil: It's a date then. I need to learn where the good watering holes are in this city.

Boromir: *smiles* I'll look forward to it.

The news about Lady Finduilas is... troubling. I was very fond of her. The idea of her not having a pleasant future is not a good one. But her son should be pleasant enough to work under.
