In which I learn about a family secret

Caranthir: *It was good to have seen his father, Caranthir though as he walked to Celegorm's house. He could see the house now. Caranthir smiled as he approached his brother's house, the hood of his cloak back. He felt more at ease in Turgon's city now*

Celegorm: *frets over some meat he has grilled. Tastes a bite, then decides to season it more* not bad...

Huan: Woof! [I want some! FEED ME!]

Celegorm: You are so needy. *grins and feeds him a piece* It's good, right?

Huan: *wags tail happily*

Caranthir: Hey Turko! *waves* Huan is here too!

Huan: Woof! [Hi!] *wags tail and sticks his nose in Caranthir's crotch*

Celegorm: Moryo! *swats at Huan* Sorry! That's his way of saying hi. Come here and taste this for me. Does it need more salt? *holds out a piece of chicken*

Caranthir: *Huan looks bigger... pats him carefully* Other dogs do it sniffing behind, but I'm glad he made it here too. *tastes the chicken* It's good. Better than I could do it. *laughs* I found Papa on the way here, or better said, Papa found me.

Celegorm: Oh? did he seem sane? He lost his mind for a while, but I guess you don't remember that.

Caranthir: The last time I saw him, he had just created the Silmarils, but he was sane. Then I ended up here, so no, I never saw him out of his mind. He did say something about those jewels when we met, though. He said that if they showed up here, he'd want them back.

Celegorm: *scratches his chin* Hmm, yes. Has he mentioned anything else about them to you? *opens up the back door to the house and gestures for Caranthir to go inside* I have something I should probably show you.

Caranthir: *comes inside with Celegorm* No, he only said that. I asked if he was going to leave the city in search of Melkor, and offered to go with him. He said he was not going to do that for now. *looks around, smiles* He will make a sword for me.

Celegorm: *leads Caranthir into the bedroom, through the rear of the closet, opens a small door in the back of the closet that had been covered up by boxes and pulls out a small box* You can't tell anyone at all. And by anyone, I mean ANYONE. Father already knows, but Maitimo does not. *opens box to reveal a glittering Silmaril* One of the guards found it and I got it from him. I'm pretty sure Turgon knows it has been found, but I'm hoping to hide it in a new spot before he can get over here. In fact, I have a partially dug secret cellar under the kitchen. If I can finish digging it quickly enough, I will reinforce the walls and hide it in there. If not... well, there are some caves just outside the city walls.

Caranthir: *follows Celegorm, curious* Where are we...? *speechless for a long moment* So Father knows you have this? *thinks that Fëanor doesn't trust him* I will tell no one, Turko... I can help you dig the cellar.

Celegorm: Yes, I had to tell him because I knew the guard who found it was going to run straight to him if I didn't. And I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how he'd react, but he agreed to keep this one hidden. And if we find any more, they will remain hidden, too. *pats Caranthir's shoulder* I trust you, and thanks...I will welcome the help.

Caranthir: Thank you for telling me. I agree that Turgon shouldn't have it. Father said I shouldn't have to hide from him, but I don't trust Turgon.

Celegorm: I'd trust a rabid warg sooner than I'd trust Turgon. *puts the stone back in the closet and shuts the door* As long as we can finish the cellar before anyone comes sniffing around here, everything will be fine. *grins* Now...Do you still want to move in?

Caranthir: *smiles* Of course I want to stay here. What is a warg? *follows him*

Celegorm: *chuckles* It's a big snarly wolf-like creature that makes Huan look tiny. Huge jaws with teeth that could rip you to pieces. Not fun. *opens door to spare bedroom* It's not huge, but it's clean...sort of. *picks a piece of dog hair off the bedspread*

Huan: *wags tail* Woof! [I don't mind sharing my bed.]

Celegorm: *to Huan* [Ha! No. You'll be on the sofa for now.]

Huan: *tail droops*

Caranthir: It's larger than my room at the apartments' area. *strokes Huan's fur* Thank you, brother. I am starting to feel at home. So tell me, what have you been doing, apart from trying to cook *grins*

Celegorm: *thinks* Luthien is here, though I haven't made any in-roads with her. *sighs wistfully* She's as beautiful as ever. And this is odd, but I met her great grandson, who is almost as stunning as she is. I intend to take him hunting. *grins* I can't wait to see how he looks on horseback. That little shit of a guard, Theoden, kept following me around, spying on me. I confronted him a few days ago by threatening to tell Father about his crush on him. That put a stop to his spying, though I suspect there are a few other guards trailing me, too.

Caranthir *thinks, remembers who Luthien is. Has no idea which guard is Theoden* What right has Turgon to do that? And who the hell is that guard who has a crush on Father? *doesn't like it at all, and can't yet grasp the grandson part*

Celegorm: *rolls his eyes* Some sniveling whelp of a human with red hair and the personality of table salt. He's boring and Father will laugh him back to the previous age if he dares confess to him. *shrugs* Turgon is in charge...for now...so he thinks he can do whatever he'd like.

Caranthir: *calmer, but not calm enough* Father said he will come with me to speak to Turgon. I wasn't going to tell Turgon I was here but Father asked if I was not proud to be his son *feels very young* I won't allow any guard to follow me, though. I hope Father puts that guard in his place. So are you going to take Luthien's great grandson to hunt? *tries to remember that part of history* Wasn't there a link with Turgon there? What's the boy's name?

Celegorm: Uhh...Elladan, I think. He's Elrond's son. Maitimo adopted him and his twin brother...or he will...did in my old timeline. *rubs his forehead* The converging timelines confuse me. I have no idea if he's related to Turgon. Goddess, I hope not!

Caranthir: Let me think... I read something about the line of Turgon... Idril marries a Man, Tuor, and they have a son, Eärendil, who married Elwing, who was Lúthien's granddaughter... Yes, you are going to hunt with Turgon's great grandson. Is he beautiful at least?

Celegorm: *grits his teeth* Are you fucking serious? Damn. Damn. *sighs heavily* Yes, he is beautiful, which is the only reason I'm still considering going.

Caranthir: Almost certain, but what if he is of Turgon's line? He is Elrond's son too, and Makalaurë and Maitimo raised those boys... after destroying their homes, that is, but... I read there was love between them. Do you think that Turgon will have something to say about you two hunting together?

Celegorm: *growls* Probably, but if I do end up hunting with him, I'm sure as hell not telling Turgon. He can kiss my ass. *sits down in a nearby chair, irritated* Hell, I don't know what I'll do now. Maybe I'll just stay home and dig the damned cellar.

Caranthir: As you wish *shrugs* Look, I almost forgot, I brought you a present. *takes out a pair of hunting knives* I suppose you have knives already, but these looked good, and I wanted to give you something for taking me in.

Celegorm: *grins and reaches for them* Thanks, baby bro. I really appreciate it. Hey, let's stop talking about all this other stuff and have some dinner.

Caranthir: *nods* Let's go. I'm hungry.

The food was good. I'm glad Celegorm found me.
