Family time!
I like this house that Turgon gave me - it's very spacious, although it feels a bit empty. And lonely. I'll have to have Father and Celegorm over. And maybe Fingon...
Maedhros: *at his new house, putting away things he bought at the market today; trying to make it look like a home*
Maglor: *finds the house easily enough -- is decent with maps; knocks, unaware he's holding his breath*
Maedhros: *wonders who it could be; briefly hopes it's Fingon; calls out* Coming! *hurries to open the door*
Maglor: It IS you!
Maedhros: *stares; but really, in his timeline, it has only been a few days since he's seen Maglor; still wasn't expecting him* It's me, yes. *grins*
Maglor: *it has been forever; grins back* Can I come in?
Maedhros: Of course! *tugs him in, two hands, see! and pulls him into a hug* When did you get here?
Maglor: *hugs back, glad to see him* An hour ago? I met Turukano. He seemed...odd.
Maedhros: Did he? I suppose he wasn't happy to see another one of us turn up here. We uh... well, versions of us... did some terrible things. *leads him in to the kitchen* Are you hungry? Can I get you something?
Maglor: *very aware of that fact, yes* Mmm, food would be nice, yes. You don't happen to have an aspirin too, do you?
Maedhros: I just got back from the market, I'll make you a sandwich....*thinks* Um... I am not sure what an aspirin is.
Maglor: Oh. *well, sits at the table anyway* When did you get here then? *is starting to question whether his initial assumption that Maedhros had returned from Mandos' Halls is indeed correct*
Maedhros: *putting together a quick lunch for the both of them* A few days ago, I think. I showed up in Celegorm's garden. It's all been rather a blur, since then. I've seen Adar, spoke to Turgon, seen Fingon... *puts the food on the table and gets them each some ale, then sits* And you've just arrived? Where did you show up?
Maglor: *ale will do in place of aspirin* Just in a square. The whole thing is a bit blurry for me too. *takes a bit of his sandwich*
Maedhros: But you've already seen Turgon? Did he give you housing?
Maglor: He said something about seeing him for housing. He seemed really preoccupied.
Maedhros: He was always a bit odd, wasn't he?
Maglor: *agrees* You said before that versions of us did terrible things... And Turukano asked me when I was from. *looks at him* When are you from?
Maedhros: Before I came here, the last thing I remember is taking the Oath. Then were were all drinking, and I fell asleep, and I woke up here. *pauses* There's a House of History here. So I went and read about all the things that... we did. That happened.
Maglor: *suddenly a little envious of him* Oh. I see.
Maedhros: *continues, but notices Maglor is not saying where he's from* Celegorm is... well, he did all that. Up until he died. Father's here from Mandos, so he lived that life until he died as well.
Maglor: *nods; well, that's something* Caranthir too? Have you met him? *so much he needs to know*
Maedhros: No! He's here? I hadn't heard!
Maglor: Oh! Turukano said he was here too. I haven't met him yet either.
Maedhros: We'll have to track him down. I wonder if Father knows... *takes a sip of ale, looks at Maglor* You haven't said when you are from yet, brother.
Maglor: *sighs* I'm from a long time from now.
Maedhros: *frowns* How long?
Maglor: *shrugs* Very long.
Maedhros: *slowly* I've read the histories. They tell how I died, but that you ... didn't. Although you seem to have been lost to the histories after that...
Maglor: *nods* Yes. Something about wandering by the sea, forever singing in lament. *slight amused quirk of the lips*
Maedhros: *smiles* So... is that what you've been doing?
Maglor: Without fail. *occasionally finds humour*
Maedhros: *sits back, taking that in* So... some of these arrivals are from so far in the future we can't even count the years. Is that you too, brother?
Maglor: *nods* Yes. That is me.
Maedhros: *suddenly very sad* Oh. Oh no.
Maglor: What?
Maedhros: That's a long time to be alone.
Maglor: Well. It might've been a little different than the histories let everyone believe.
Maedhros: Oh? Well. That does sound a little better.
Maglor: Still...it is good to see you. *so so so good*
Maedhros: It's wonderful to see you. *not so long for him, but just imagining how long it was for Maglor* I'm glad you're here.
Maglor: Me too. I think. *polishes off his lunch*
Maedhros: Do you have a place to stay yet? You're welcome to stay with me. I've got lots of room here.
Maglor: *nods* I would like that.
Maedhros: *beams* Wonderful! Turgon was very generous with this house - I've got a few spare bedrooms. You can take your pick.
Maglor: Thanks. Have you met Father? Turukano said he was...sane.
Maedhros: Yes. I've seen him. He's released us from the Oath. Says we have a second chance this time. *shakes his head* He seemed sane. Although you never know with Father.
Maglor: *oh how ironic* Indeed. I confess my memories of him are...not all fond.
Maedhros: *nods* I understand. Eru, that Oath. He was mad then. And what happened after...
Maglor: Let's not talk of that now. I'm still struggling with finding myself in Turukano's hidden city.
Maedhros: It IS odd, isn't it? Not just me? I mean, a hidden city. Very like Turukano to build one.
Maglor: Incredibly like him. Though I thought it was meant to mirror Tirion. If so, I fear his memory is failing already. *grins a little*
Maedhros: *laughs* I can see that he was aiming for it, though.
Maglor: Not sure how I feel about it being Turukano's city.
Maedhros: *nods* I know what you mean, but so far he's been generous. And... I suppose there are worse alternatives.
Maglor: Elu Thingol, for one.
Maedhros: *nods again*
Maglor: *sits back* That was delicious, thank you.
Maedhros: You're welcome. Why don't you go pick out a bedroom? And we can go down to the market and pick up things you need, if you'd like.
Maglor: *nods* I'd like that. After a nap. Turukano is tiring. *being with Maedhros comes so easily*
Maedhros: Yes, definitely nap! I imagine this is ALL a bit tiring for you.
Maglor: *gets up* Rather!
Maedhros: Sleep well. I'm glad you're here.
Maglor: So am I.
Well, that was a lovely surprise. At least now the place won't seem so empty. And Moryo's here too? I'm going to have to find him!
***
Next morning, Maedhros sets off to find his younger brother...
Caranthir: *leaves Celegorm's house early in the morning, after having breakfast. He is still thinking about all that's happened. Should he go to work? Should he visit his father first?*
Maedhros: *goes to get coffee - really loves that coffee that the future arrivals have brought - and heads to Celegorm's to ask him about Caranthir*
Caranthir: *has decided to go to work first and see if Turgon fulfilled his promise of keeping Grima away from him*
Maedhros: *sees him walking by, and stops* Is that...
Caranthir: *feels eyes on him* Maitimo?
Maedhros: *rushes over to him* Brother! *pulls him in to a hug*
Caranthir: *smiles and hugs Maitimo*
Maedhros: I heard you were here! When did you get here? *steps back* Look at you! You look well, Moryo! *also young*
Caranthir: Months ago, but Turko found me yesterday, and then Father. *and then Grima and Turgon, but he is not ready to speak about that yet* You look well too, brother! Turko told me you showed up in his garden. Are you feeling well... *remembers his brother still has his two hands* I mean, do you like it here?
Maedhros: Yes! So far, at least. And I've seen Father, and he seems well.
Caranthir: Everybody keeps saying that. I never saw him unwell. I was just trying to escape the forge when I was dragged here.
Maedhros: Well, be glad of that. And I have some other news to be glad of!
Caranthir: What news? Tell me, brother.
Maedhros: Maglor is here. He just turned up yesterday. He's staying with me. I'm so glad to see you - we'll all have to get together now! *beaming with happiness to have so many of his brothers here*
Caranthir: He is here too? We only need Curvo and Ambarussa and we'll be together! Well, mother won't be here, but when I left she was still with Father... *his expression changes a bit* How did you know I was here? *doesn't want Turgon to start trailing Maitimo or Makalaurë too*
Maedhros: That would be wonderful if they showed up. And mother too! Oh, and Maglor told me. He evidently heard it from Turgon.
Caranthir: I see... So Turgon didn't... *shrugs*
Maedhros: Didn't...?
Caranthir: Bring his guards to seize him, like he was going to do with me.
Maedhros: No. *frowns* Why did he do that to you?
Caranthir: He said that he thought I might become violent when dicovered, but as soon as he saw me, he dismissed his guards. He said I was a child, which I'm not! *pauses* He also said that I was family and that I could go to him if I needed somehing...
Maedhros: Hmm. Well. I'm glad nothing happened with the guards. *puts an arm around Caranthir's shoulder* Still. Unpleasant. Turukano is a bit odd.
Caranthir: Maitimo, he blames Turko and Father for hiding me but they didn't. I told Turgon that but he didn't seem to believe me. If he was willing to bring his guars against me then what will he do against Father or Turko? They died after they did all those things.
Maedhros: *annoyed that his brother is upset* I will talk to Turukano about this. He must stop. He said we were all to be given second chances.
Caranthir: But he still lost his wife during that crossing. I want to get along with him, but I won't stand aside if he sends his guards against Turko or Father. I told him that, and... He said that my loyalty... I know I died because of that Oath, but doesTurgon know, really know what is to give second chances? Is he prepared to do it?
Maedhros: I won't stand aside either. *but hopes it won't come to that* I hope he IS prepared.
Caranthir: *relaxes marginally* I'm glad you are here, Russandol. I was going to visit Father, but now that Turukano knows I am here... *still not happy about the silmaril, but remembers Maitimo doesn't know about it* Maybe I should go to work...
Maedhros: Work? You have a job? Where?
Caranthir: At the House of History. When I came here, It was there I ended up. I chose a random name in a book, and lived here as Loras until now. Maybe I should visit Father and tell him that Turukano already knows... *is undecided*
Maedhros: Well, that is good! It's nice to have a job to occupy you. Do you like it? *considers* Perhaps you should visit Father... he should know.
Caranthir: Yes, I like the job, save for a man there that sold me to Turukano... *shrugs* You are right. I should tell Father. He might be waiting for me or come to Turko's house. That's here I am staying.
Maedhros: *smiles* Good to know where you are, little brother. But I do not like the sound of a man selling you out. Do you want me to speak to him?
Caranthir: No, Maitimo, but thank you. Turukano thinks the man is loyal to him. You would probably get in trouble with Turukano.
Maedhros: Fine. I'll leave it. *for now* Well, do you want me to come with you, to see Father? I was going to speak to Turko, but I can join you, if you want.
Caranthir: I would like that, unless Turko i waiting for you?
Maedhros: No, I was going to ask him if he knew you were here. He didn't know I was coming. Let's go to Father's then.
Caranthir: All right. Let's go. You know where he lives?
Maedhros: Yes, and it's not too far. *starts walking this way* So you've hidden in this city for months?
Caranthir: *walks with him* Yes. At first I was confused and hid in the house's oldest rooms. Then I was discovered there and blurted out the first name that came to my mind. I was given a room and a job. I liked the job...
Maedhros: And you still do, aside from this troublemaking human? What did you say his name was?
Caranthir: I didn't say his name.
Maedhros: *smiles* You've caught me. I just want to know his name, in case we need to keep an eye on him
Caranthir: I don't want you to get in trouble because of me, but he might try to do something against Turko. He might have done it already. His name is Grima. He was servant to Saruman, former Istari, who fall under Sauron's control and served him. *really likes history*
Maedhros: *nods, taking this all in* So not a good sort of human, at all. I'll keep a watch out for him.
Caranthir: No, and I have no idea why Turukano trusts him. Just be careful, brother. Is that Father's house?
Maedhros: *nods* I'll be careful. And yes, he's probably out back, in his workshop. Come on. *leads him that way*
Feänor: *is indeed in his workshop; has finished the sword for Maedhros, and is working on another*
Caranthir: *wonders if that is his sword* Hello, Father.
Feänor: *looks up* My sons! Hello!
Maedhros: *waves*
Caranthir: *is happy to see his father* Is that my sword, Father? *thinks he might need it*
Feänor: Yes. Yours is finished, Nelyafinwë. It's over there. *gestures* I'll be done with yours soon, Moryo.
Maedhros: *goes to look at his; removes it from the sheath* It's perfect, Father.
Feänor: *nods* Of course.
Caranthir: Thank you. I hope Turukano... *stops himself, frowns at his slip* I have to go to work.
Feänor: Wait. You and I were going to see Turukano today. I can stop work and go now.
Caranthir: There is no need. Turukano knows I am here.
Feänor: He does? How did that happen?
Maedhros: *straps his sword on his belt* Evidently some human reported back to Turukano.
Caranthir: Father, Turukano thinks you and Turko have been hiding me. He didn't believe me when I told him he was wrong *stays quiet about the guards*
Feänor: Well. *this is upsetting, but tries to remember to be calm* I have NOT been hiding you, nor has Turko.
Caranthir: I am sorry, Father. I didn't mean to get you in trouble with Turukano.
Feänor: *comes over and pats his shoulder* Not to worry. You've done nothing wrong.
Caranthir: *thinks of the guards* Just be careful, all right? Turukano... He said I was without taint, which means he believes you and Turko... I told him I would always be loyal to you and my brothers.
Feänor: *maybe is getting very angry inside; tries not to show it*
Maedhros: *watching his face; uh oh*
Caranthir: *worries, hopes his father never knows about the guards*
Feänor: I appreciate it, Moryo. I know you're always loyal to us. And I will talk to Turukano. There is no need to harass you, or Turko.
Caranthir: There is no need, Papa...
Feänor: He said we were to have a second chance! How can that be if he is harassing you?
Maedhros: Don't worry, Father. I'm sure it's a misunderstanding. *HOPES*
Caranthir: *nods, but is still worried*
Feänor: *reminds himself to be calm* Perhaps.
Maedhros: *thinks a change of subject is in order* I have good news! Makalaurë is here, Father.
Feänor: *is distracted from his annoyance* What? When? Where is he?
Maedhros: He arrived yesterday. He's staying with me. I left him asleep at my place. I know he wants to see both of you.
Caranthir: When is he from?
Maedhros: Uh. From the future.
Caranthir: The future as in... the far future?
Maedhros: *nods* Very far.
Feänor: *hasn't done much reading of the future history, just mostly visits the house of Artificers* So... when the humans are rulers?
Maedhros: *nods* Yes, like that.
Caranthir: *dislikes most of the humans*
Caranthir: Is he all right?
Maedhros: He was tired and hungry. But I fed him. I think he'll be okay. *doesn't mention that he seemed rather world-weary*
Feänor: I hope he comes by when he wakes up. *goes back to working on Caranthir's sword* I'll have this done for you soon, Moryo. *thinks he may need it*
Caranthir: Thank you, Father. I really should go to work now.
Feänor: Yes, go ahead. Be careful.
Maedhros: I'll go as well, Father.
Feänor: *waves them off*
Well. It seems we might have some trouble here in Turukano's city already. I'm glad Father finished my sword.
Maedhros: *at his new house, putting away things he bought at the market today; trying to make it look like a home*
Maglor: *finds the house easily enough -- is decent with maps; knocks, unaware he's holding his breath*
