I am reacting like a reasonable ancient elven king
Turgon: *feeding the last of his sandwich to Idril2*
Ecthelion: *comes by and jumps when he sees that* Oh holy crap!
Turgon: I think it likes me!
Ecthelion: I hope it likes you.
Turgon: we'll find out when it breaks free one night, won't we. You're here earlier than usual
Ecthelion: I wanted to talk to you about Celegorm.
Turgon: ...what's he done?
Ecthelion: Nothing, actually. But he's made all the guards I had tailing him.
Turgon: Mm. That's got his baby brother rather upset. Did we get anything useful from the tailing?
Ecthelion: No, he actually seems to be behaving himself. I think we should take the guards off him.
Turgon: *nods* all right. I trust your judgement.
Ecthelion: I've got... another option for tracking Feanorians, if need be.
Turgon: do tell? *closes the lid of Idril2's cage*
Ecthelion: *shakes his head* No, this will be better if it's just something I know.
Turgon: ...well. Like I said, I trust your judgement.
Ecthelion: *doesn't want to give the cat up*
Turgon: do what you need to.
Ecthelion: What did you say about his baby brother?
Turgon: Oh, Caranthir's just worried about his family. He thinks I'm spying on all of them and plotting.
Ecthelion: Well.... we were kind of spying on one of them. *grins*
Turgon: I'm not saying it's not fair. But he's skittery. I actually feel sorry for him, he's... well, he's not who we knew.
Ecthelion: Mmm? What's different about him?
Turgon: Hm? Well, I mean, he's never taken the vow. He's barely an adult
Ecthelion: Ooh. No wonder he's jittery.
Turgon: *nod* I'm being gentle. It's easy not to hate him. Like the others
Ecthelion: *well this next part is going to be awkward* I told Celegorm we'd approve a hunting party.
Turgon: I told him he could hunt. I offered him the job the first day
Turgon: he's an ass, but he's an excellent hunter. I just haven't got around to setting things up yet
Turgon: mostly because it meant having to deal with Celegorm
Ecthelion: Oh, that explains why he said there's no hunting parties going out.
Turgon: *nods and goes to sit at his desk, pulling out files* I know he asked my grandson and I gave approval. Here's the other hunters we usually have to go out. Give Celegorm the briefing not to alienate them? *hands over the papers*
Turgon: and tell him I'm particularly fond of bush-antlered deer and may stop telling Luthien about him if he can bring me a few for the banquet at the winter festival.
Ecthelion: *takes them* Okay. I'll be going with him.
Turgon: And that should settle tha--*mental record scratch* what? You're going outside?
Ecthelion: To hunt, yeah.
Turgon: but you should be here. In my city. Doing... guard things.
Ecthelion: *smiles* I won't be gone long.
Turgon: it's not safe. It's with Celegorm
Ecthelion: I'll be fine. I'm the Captain of your Guard. I can take care of myself. Plus, it'll be good to have me there with him and your grandson, don't you think?
Turgon: ...mnnng.
Ecthelion: He does seem to be trying to behave himself, Turu.
Turgon: ...why do you want to go?
Ecthelion: It might be fun.
Turgon: spending time with Celegorm is fun?
Ecthelion: I don't know, but I'll give it a try. It might be nice to have fun again.
Turgon: we have lots of fun. Remember our adventure meeting Idril2?
Ecthelion: *grins* Yes. Just.... more fun.
Turgon: *shoulder slump* fine, you have my approval of going hunting with Celegorm. Also, I want to try out some guards on border patrol, nothing permanent but just to give them an idea of how to be lookouts out there. Choose who you think would be suited to it. We'll do that after your hunting trip so no one ends up full of arrows
Ecthelion: I think that's a good idea, boss.
Turgon: and it'll be an excuse for you to spend some more time outside the city, if you miss that
Ecthelion: I probably won't assign myself border patrol. Unless you want me on it.
Turgon: No, no. But I mean showing them through the forest. You're good at explaining what sounds lead to killing things
Ecthelion: *grins* A talent of mine.
Turgon: be very clear about what bodies of water are a danger. I'm still annoyed we lost two guards over that back when we first started building the city
Ecthelion: *nods* I will.
Turgon: good. *awkward, still feeling irritated that Celegorm is spending time with HIS Lio but doesn't want to control him* Is that all?
Ecthelion: I think so. Unless you had something else...?
Turgon: *shakes his head*
Ecthelion: Okay. I'm going out tonight, so I'm going to get going.
Turgon: going where?
Ecthelion: *this part is also awkward* To the Drunken Maia. Maybe to the House of the Satari. Celegorm seemed interested.
Turgon: *very still* Ah. Well. Have fun.
Ecthelion: *can tell he's bothered* He asked me to show him around, Turu. It's not a big deal.
Turgon: Did I say it was?
Ecthelion: No. Just... *trails off*
Turgon: As I said. *looks down at his paperwork* Have fun.
Ecthelion: *frowns* You seem upset.
Turgon: I'm fine.
Ecthelion: *sighs; if he's going to be like this, will not try to talk to him* Fine. I'll talk to you tomorrow.
Turgon: *curt nod*
Ecthelion: *leaves*
I need to blow off steam. I'm going to do that the only way I know how.
Going to visit my little brother and see how he's doing at the House of Healing.
Okay, I have other methods, but I think this is the best use of my time.
