Today is the day I get to bring Melly home! I hope she likes living with me...
Melkor: *holding his bag of candy, his only possession as he waits for Eowyn to take him home*
Eowyn: *comes to get her* Are you ready, Melly?
Melkor: *nods* where do you live?
Eowyn: A nice house. Not far from here. We can walk.
Melkor: do you live near elves?
Eowyn: *nods* Yes, this city is full of elves.
Melkor: ugh *takes Eowyn's hand out of nervousness without realizing it*
Eowyn: But there are some humans in the city besides us. Some of my family! You'll get to meet them.
Melkor: I merely need a place to reside safely hidden, human. That is all
Eowyn: *so odd* You'll have a nice bedroom, and we have a nice yard with a garden, so you'll have a place to play...
Melkor: I do not play. *has no idea how you even play*
Eowyn: Well, we'll get you some toys. *walks along with her to the house*
Melkor: toys? *looking around the city without terror for once*
Eowyn: We'll go to the market and you'll see. *has, in fact, already bought her a few dolls and stuffed animals, as well as paper and crayons*
Melkor: I've no use for toys! I'll need weapons
Eowyn: *shakes her head* No weapons for children.
Melkor: ...how long will I be a child?
Eowyn: Oh, about 15 more years... *waves to people she knows as they walk along*
Melkor: *stops in his tracks*
Eowyn: *tugs her hand* What?
Melkor: unacceptable! I require weapons proficiency training for this body immediately! I will not be left defenseless among elves!
Eowyn: *shakes her head* No weapons. You've no need to defend yourself from elves. *goes back to walking*
Melkor: *dragged along* they'll kill me!
Eowyn: Oh, they will not.
Melkor: I'm helpless as a child! One good kick and I'm dead! *panicking*
Eowyn: Hush. You're just a little girl. Why would the elves want to hurt you? *stops in front of a gate* This is the house! *quite likes the cottage*
Melkor: because I'm Melkor! *slips his hand free, deciding Eowyn can't protect him and bolts*
Eowyn: Oh bema... *chases after her and catches her easily* Now stop that.
Melkor: *kicks and struggles, but not very strong yet and wearing out quickly*
Eowyn: Don't be silly, Melly. If the elves had wanted to harm you, they could have easily done so already. *carries her and her candy to the house*
Melkor: They will when they find out! *holding tight to Eowyn, trying to catch his breath*
Eowyn: No, no. They're not going to find out anything. *soothing talk as she carries Melly to her new bedroom*
Melkor: promise? You won't tell? *big eyes*
Eowyn: I won't tell. *doesn't occur to her that there IS anything to tell; just thinks the child is confused and traumatized and has latched onto the Melkor identity to feel strong and powerful*
Melkor: ...thank you *buries his face in her neck*
Eowyn: *pets* You're welcome. It's alright.
Melkor: *wishes this body wasn't so weak, not aware it's from the wasting away that's tiring him out like this*
Eowyn: Why don't you rest on your new bed for a while? *hopes the child will sleep better when not worrying about elves around her* I'll make us some lunch.
Melkor: *tries to stifle a yawn* no. I must remain vigilant. *yaaawn*
Eowyn: Mmm, yes. Vigilant while lying down. *takes the candy and puts it on the nightstand, and tucks Melly in, with a stuffed animal next to her*
Melkor: *deeply confused by the animal, but likes how it feels so cuddles up to it*
Eowyn: Good, now remain vigilant. *grins and leaves the room to make lunch*
Theoden: *drops by with the extra kid supplies he told Eowyn he'd pick up for her*
Eowyn: Hi, Theo, come in.
Theoden: hey. Got the little girl stuff as asked *holds out the bag* Little sister experience at your service.
Eowyn: Thank you. *takes the bag* She's resting right now.
Theoden: Mind if I stick around to meet her? Been missing Wynnie ever since you told me about her, and she's about the same age
Eowyn: I don't mind, but she's probably napping.
Theoden: well, I do like visiting with you
Theoden: strange, I know. *sets the bag down*
Eowyn: Come into the kitchen, I am going to make chicken soup for lunch. You're welcome to join us.
Theoden: thanks. So, is she a little less weird now that she's not, you know, dying?
Eowyn: *shakes her head* She's still rather convinced she is Melkor. Would you like some tea?
Theoden: how does a kid even start thinking that? And yes, please. *sits*
Eowyn *puts the kettle on for tea* I don't really know? I imagine it's because she was alone and traumatized, and picked Melkor because it's a name that invokes power and fear.
cute
Theoden: makes sense. *rests his chin in his hands* You think she'll be okay? There's not really any other kids around here for her to normalize with
Eowyn: I hope so? *pours them both tea* There are some other human children here, I've met them with their parents, but I don't know how open they'll be.
Theoden: It'd be nice if my little sister was here. She was pretty accepting
Eowyn: *freezes briefly, tries to cover* Which sister?
Theoden: Theodwyn. I keep thinking I should wish that Swanhild would show up, before her accident, but that just makes my chest ache
Eowyn: *of course, Theodwyn; doesn't let her emotions show on her face* Well, it would be nice if you had more family.
Theoden: Yeah. You help. I mean, it really hurt being alone. And now I've got you, and I've made good friends with Dred...
Eowyn: *starts chopping vegetables for the soup* And I suppose Feanor too. *teasing him*
Theoden: *little smile* I'm getting somewhere with him, yeah, I think so. And I'm trying to learn how to, well, be with other people first too. I've been spending time with the king's brother
Eowyn: My, you run in fancy circles.
Theoden: I do. I guess I can't really leave being a prince behind.
Theoden: I keep forgetting it's weird for me to be spending time with royals
Eowyn: I've met the king, but not his brother. How is he?
Theoden: he's nice. Very dashing. He likes my hair a lot
Eowyn: *amused* Really?
Theoden: it's nice hair!
Eowyn: Oh, indeed. *puts the soup on to cook*
Theoden: it's nice to know that I can actually appeal to elves. *watches her cook* it's flattering. What was the king like? I've only seen him officially
Eowyn: He was fascinated by how old I was. I think he thought I was going to drop dead any second. *curious* Why do you care about appealing to elves? Shouldn't you worry about humans?
Theoden: he obviously has no idea what a woman in her prime looks like. And what do you mean?
Eowyn: I'm just wondering if you might not build more meaningful relations with humans? I mean, to elves, we're nothing but a blink of an eye.
Theoden: *shrug* well. I like elves. They're interesting and pretty. I'd worry more about humans if I thought I was going home, because heirs and all that.
Eowyn: Well, what if you want to marry and build a family here?
Theoden: then I'd probably be chasing human women. I'm just twenty, do I have to be thinking about that yet?
Eowyn: No, I just wonder if humans can have a real relationship with an elf.
Theoden: well, since I've got an elf ancestor, I assume it can be done
Eowyn: Yes, but those elves were more used to humans than these...
Theoden: what do you think the elves are going to do with me?
Eowyn: *smiles* Nothing. I was just wondering, don't mind me.
Theoden: *little seed of worry, but nods* Okay. *sips his tea*
Melkor: *woken up from the noise and comes out of his room holding the nice-feeling toy bear* what's going on? *little yawn*
Theoden: oh my, she even looks Rohirric. Hi, Melly *smiles down at her*
Melkor: *flat look back* Melkor, human.
Theoden: of course. Melkor. I brought you some things, my dark lord
Melkor: *excited look and wanders over to Theoden's bag to be presented with all the items Theo remembered that his sisters had and he didn't that he could find* What is this white stuff? *pokes at it*
Theoden: Lace. It makes it for girls, I think.
Melkor: I'm a man! A valar!
Theoden: yeah, but you're in disguise, right?
Melkor: ...something like that
Theoden: well, there you go. It's to help
Melkor: *puts on the slippers that were some of the things in the bag and climbs up onto a chair* I smell food
Eowyn: *amused at their interaction* I made soup for lunch.
Melkor: *hungry look*
Theoden: I'm waiting until she's a little stronger before I start bringing her sugar to set her off. *sweet look at Eowyn*
Melkor: I like sugar. Give me some now, human.
Eowyn: *glad she looks hungry, wants to build her strength* It's almost ready. *to Theoden* Do not.
Theoden: it'll be wasted
Melkor: *kicks his feet on the chair and tries to wait for the food, cuddling his bear*
Theoden: do you like your new home?
Melkor: it's nothing like where I have dwelt.
Theoden: I like the decorations around the tops of the walls. Nice flowers. There's something like that in my cottage. Which poor Dred's been seeing a lot of, with his ankle
Melkor: Who is 'Dread'? *thinks that is a suitably dark name*
Theoden: My roommate, Theodred
Melkor: oh. *loses interest*
Eowyn: Mmm, yes. I did want to speak to him.
Theoden: about what?
Eowyn: Just some business. *gets them all bowls of soup*
Theoden: well, he can't really go anywhere. I mean, he hobbles to work, but nowhere once he gets home
Melkor: *hisses when his is too hot*
Eowyn: *to Melly* Blow on it first... Yes. I wanted to talk to him.
Melkor: *blooooow*
Theoden: I'm just saying, anytime you want to come over is good.
Theoden: you never did do that supper with him I was planning on
Eowyn: I think... hmm. I could do that tonight.
Theoden: you're always welcome. And I bet he'd like to meet Mell--Melkor
Melkor: He should be honoured. *keeps accidentally blowing all the soup off his spoon*
Eowyn: I can bring food, so you and Theodred don't have to cook.
Theoden: sure. Although, if you're worried, my cooking's not so bad. I've been fending for myself for a year.
Melkor: this spoon is inferior
Eowyn: Don't blow so hard. *to Theo* No, I'm not worried. I just don't want to inconvenience you.
Theoden: well, thanks *grins* And you'll probably know what's best to feed the kid
Melkor: dark lord
Theoden: Dark lord
Eowyn: Okay, I'll bring something we'll just have to heat up. And it will give me a chance to talk to Dred.
Theoden: good. All arranged then.
Melkor: I have to go into the city again?
Eowyn: It's not far.
Melkor: fine. I'll go. Melkor fears nothing
Eowyn: And I'll be with you.
