Maglor stopped by my office today, and things went very well.
Maglor: *knocks*
Ecthelion: Come in!
Maglor: Good afternoon, Ecthelion. I'm here to make a request.
Ecthelion: Oh? What can I do for you?
Maglor: My cousin has given my brother and me permission to mine. I'd rather, for his sake, go alone.
Ecthelion: *shakes his head* No, I can't allow people outside of the city without a guard.
Maglor: And why not?
Ecthelion: It's not that I don't think you, of all people, can't handle yourself. But it sets a precedent. And we can't do that.
Maglor: *considers* That is a fair statement.
Ecthelion: *looks up at him* There are people who have been in this city a long time, and have started to think they want to depart. And there are the newcomers, who weren't prepared to be in a city they can't leave. And if I start letting people leave the city without guards, others will get similar ideas. *being honest and explaining*
Maglor: *holds up his hands* I understand.
Ecthelion: *nods* That's good. Sorry I couldn't accommodate you. And if I can be of assistance in any other matters, please let me know. I can assign one of my most experienced guards to go with you. An Elf... I think that might go over better than a human.
Maglor: Yes, please. I don't mind humans, but it will be enough convincing Moryo to allow a guard!
Ecthelion: *nods* They will keep a discreet distance, to let you go about your business. They're just there to protect you in case of harm, and to make sure no one wanders off.
Maglor: I promise no one will wander off. If I lie, you may shoot me.
Ecthelion: No need for that! *grins*
Maglor: Oh, and Turukano says hello.
Ecthelion: Which reminds me, I have to go see him. *stands* Good to see you, Makalaurë. *offers his hand* I'm glad we could reach an understanding.
Maglor: As am I. *clasps it* Thank you, Ecthelion!
Maglor: *knocks*
