Questioning

Though the summons given to her by one of the Ecthelion's guards made her a bit apprehensive, she knew there was nothing to worry about. She would not have been under suspicion for the murder, but it was understandable that they would want to ask her about the circumstances surrounding her discovery of the body.

To that effect, Lúthien has made a point of arriving promptly at the time detailed in the summons, and one of Ecthelion's secretaries sees her in. She curtsies politely.

Lúthien: I have come as requested, my lord. How might I be of assistance?

Ecthelion: *stands* Welcome, Princess Lúthien, correct?

Lúthien: *nods her head* Yes, Lúthien of Doriath.

Ecthelion: Well met. I am Ecthelion, Captain of the Guard of Gondolin, and Lord of the
Fountains. *gestures* Have a seat. I have a few questions for you.

Lúthien: *sits and smooths her skirts over her knees* I'm happy to tell anything I know.

Ecthelion: *gets out his file on the murder, and a pen to take notes* Now, can you tell me what you were doing when you found the body?

Lúthien: *nods once* I often wander through the city to pass the time, and there is a market not far from my home. The shortest route is through an alley that cuts behind a city block. I was passing through the alley when I found the body. *she looks a bit pale at the recollection*

Ecthelion: *nods* I understand this is difficult for you... please go on.

Lúthien: Yes. Forgive me. *she thinks for a moment* When I rounded the corner, I found him there. A young man. *she shakes her head* I checked to see if he was alive. I thought to heal him, but... he was not breathing, nor was his heart beating, and there were cuts on his body. I saw no one else nearby, so I went immediately to find a guard and seek help.

Ecthelion: *nods, making notes* Well, that was the right thing to do, Princess. You didn't by any chance know the person?

Lúthien: No, I'd never seen him before. *voice saddens* He seemed so young. Too young to die like that.

Ecthelion: Yes, these poor humans.... it's certainly a tragedy. I'm sorry you had to go through such a thing.

Lúthien: *shakes her head* I'll be fine. I'm sorry that one so young lost his life this far from his home and his loved ones. *pausing for a moment* Your guards probably told you, but the alley... the scene around the body seemed very strange.

Ecthelion: *nods* Yes, and I saw it myself, but could you tell me in your own words? It's good to have a different perspective.

Lúthien: *touches her lips for a moment in thought, trying to recall all the details* Well, the man seemed as if he'd been attacked, and yet his body had been laid at rest. Though he had been cut, there was little blood. It is as if he were placed there to be found after he was killed.

Lúthien: I am no expert, but it was very strange, indeed. That is how it seemed to me.

Ecthelion: *nods, noting her observations, which match what he saw himself* Is there anything else you can think of? It doesn't necessarily have to be from the crime scene .... maybe you noticed something on the way to the alley, as you walking through that area of the city?

Lúthien: Nothing I can recall. If there were, I did not notice.

Ecthelion: *nods* Well. I think that's about it. *looks her over, knows this is the woman that Celegorm was in love with and is a bit curious, aside from the investigation; she truly is breathtakingly lovely* If you can think of anything else, please, feel free to come and see me right away.

Lúthien: I shall, and I hope that you uncover the truth behind this murder. This fair city ought not to be marred by so grievous a crime.

Ecthelion: I hope I do too, and fast. *stands, offering her a hand* I do have one request of you, my lady.

Lúthien: *takes his hand and stands as well* You need but name it, my lord.

Ecthelion: Please, be careful when walking the city streets, until this crime is solved. It would be best if you don't walk alone.

Lúthien: *nods* Of course. My hound, Melui, is accompanying me now, but I'll grant she is not very intimidating. I'll be as cautious as I can.

Ecthelion: If you feel unsafe, I will ask a guard to accompany you.

Lúthien: I think I'll be all right on my way home. I do have some magic at my disposal; I would not prove so easy a target.

Ecthelion: *nods* All right, but feel free to let us know if you need any assistance. *hopes she will not be a target for the murderer, after finding this body*

Lúthien: *curtsies again* I shan't hesitate. I have no wish for my name to be added to those of the deceased.

Ecthelion: Thank you again for coming by.

Lúthien: Please call on me again if you have need of me. *she shows herself to the door and opens it, revealing her dog waiting patiently just outside* Come, Melui. *they depart together, watchful as they go*
