Back to the scene of the crime
Ecthelion: *in his office, making a chart of all the clues they have in the murder case so far; rather paltry, sighs*
Theo: *knocks, still hasn't realized Nuala's nature* Captain! It's very important!
Ecthelion: Enter!
Theo: *comes in, nearly tripping over Dagnir who hops onto the desk* This woman's found another body.
Ecthelion: Crap. Miss. Come in.
Nuala: *comes in after Theo, looking wide-eyed. She bows out of reflex.* M'lord.
Theo: I didn't get your name? *trying to edge towards the desk to get his cat away*
Ecthelion: I'm Ecthelion, Captain of the Guard... *offers his hand*
Dagnir: *elegantly dodges Theo and gets closer to Lio*
Nuala: *reaches out and clasps his wrist rather than his hand, giving it one firm shake* I'm Nuala. Nuala Woolweaver.
Theo: *notices her tattoos and this point and eyes narrow*
Ecthelion: *glances at the cat, then back at Nuala* A pleasure to meet you, Miss, although I'm sorry it's under such circumstances. Please, have a seat. Can we get you water?
Nuala: *sits and nods, glancing back towards the door and shifting the chair slightly so her back isn't exposed to it* Please. I would appreciate it.
Ecthelion: Theo, could you get her a glass?
Theo: *quick bow and leaves to get some, though he doesn't want to leave Lio alone with a Dunlending*
Nuala: *wrings her hands, but tries to calm herself and hold them still in her lap*
Ecthelion: Can you tell us where you found the body, miss? *pen poised to write down*
Nuala: *bites her lip, realizing how suspicious her story is going to sound* It was in an alley, near the market. I was there to buy some food. *she gestures to the cloth bag she still
carries*
Ecthelion: *nods* I see. And what can you tell me about it?
Nuala: It was a dwarf. He had armor and a great, bushy beard. I didn't touch him, but I'm sure he was dead. He was unnatural pale.
Ecthelion: Did you notice anything else? Any other people? Blood, injuries?
Nuala: *shakes her head* He was just lying there, like he was sleeping. It didn't look like he'd fought at all.
Theo: *returns with the water, avoiding making contact with Nuala as he gives it to her*
Nuala: *takes it and thanks him quietly*
Ecthelion: Hmm. No one else around?
Nuala: Not that I saw. It was a dead end.
Ecthelion: So... the body must have been there a while.
Nuala: I don't know. *looks again over her shoulder and then takes a sip of her water. Her hands are shaking*
Ecthelion: Miss, could you give us directions to the body, or perhaps show us?
Nuala: *nods and quickly downs the water, then sets the glass on his desk* I doubt I could give you the directions if I tried, but I think I could lead you back there. *she glances at Dagnir, because really, he'd have to be the one leading*
Ecthelion: Well, we need to get to the body right away, but... I know this is difficult.
Nuala: I'm no stranger to death. I-- I just didn't expect it in a city built by Elves. *won't mention the other reason she's jumpy with Theo standing there, not after the way he'd behaved when he brought the water back*
Ecthelion: Then I will ask you to lead us there now, please.
Dagnir: *hops off, clearly intending to come with them*
Nuala: *nods grimly and stands, exiting the office and subtly pulling up her collar to keep the men who are obviously Rohirrim from getting too good a look at her and committing her face from memory*
Theo: Dagnir! *annoyed noise*
Dagnir: *gets in front of Nuala to lead as subtly as he can*
Ecthelion: *follows closely, talking to her, nothing important, just chatting to try to calm her*
Theo: *trying to act as professional as he can in front of Lio and not say anything stupid*
Dagnir: *leads them into the backalleys*
Nuala: *lets Dagnir lead them until they finally reach the alley where the body was laid to rest. She hangs back when they arrive, but once she sees the body, she doesn't look away* Here. He hasn't been moved at all; this is just how I found him.
Theo: Maybe he fell? *looks up at the high buildings*
Ecthelion: Thank you, miss. I'm sorry to put you through this twice. *walks over to the body to check things out*
Grindi: *starting to get a little whiffy in his armour in the day and damp*
Nuala: I'm all right. Sorry I don't know anything more. *keeping her back against the nearest wall*
Theo: Hey! *to Nuala* Move.
Nuala: *practically jumps away from the wall*
Ecthelion: Not to worry, you've been very helpful. *to Theo* I need you to get some other guards here right away. We need to go over the scene, and then get the body out of here.
Theo: There's a mark here, sir. *points to where Nuala was, the squiggle and dot is there* She nearly destroyed it.
Nuala: I'm sorry, I didn't see it there.
Ecthelion: *sternly to Theo* I'm sure it was not on purpose. *comes over to look at the mark*
Theo: *shuts up, but does give Nuala a Look*
Nuala: *moves to put Ecthelion between herself and Theo, watching the young man carefully*
Dagnir: *smart enough this time to not try to lick the mark and is sniffing around the body instead*
Kak: *has decided to rejoin his human* Now can I eat it?
Nuala: No!
Kak: Just the eyes. Guards don't need the eyes.
Ecthelion: *doesn't hear the bird* Miss? If you want to go home now, that's fine. We're going to be working here.
Theo: We most certainly do. Get your... bird away from the body.
Nuala: *reaches into her bag and gets a piece of bread for him* Kak, come on. Have this instead.
Kak: *gobbles it down, holding tightly to Nuala's shoulder*
Nuala: I'll be going, then. *she bows once more* M'lord. *edges away before she turns and walks away as fast as she can without running outright*
Kak: You need directions?
Nuala: *nods once* If you wouldn't mind.
Kak: *takes off, flying above her to tell her where to go*
Nuala: *disappears into the alleys*
Theo: I'll get the other guards, sir. *bows to Lio, leaving him alone with Dagnir*
Dagnir: I found body.
Dagnir: I still no find elves again
Ecthelion: You found the body?
Dagnir: *nods* I smell it, when I on patrol. I had find human. I know that one, she lady I helped. *walks up beside Lio* Use her to give you real witness
Ecthelion: Thanks, good plan.
Dagnir: *purr of 'of course my plan was good'*
