Idril: *goes to the park now that she can!*

Greentwig: *swaying gently in the wind*

Yaban: *taking the scarlet macaw from Eressil's zoo on a walk, like Luthien suggested*

Idril: *smiles happily next to the tree and sees Yaban, waving* hello!

Yaban: hey there! *does a sort of slow bird wave with the arm holding the giant bird*

Idril: what kind of bird is that?

Yaban: a parrot. Native to where I come from, somehow made its way back to here. He's a friendly fellow *holds him out for her to see* careful not to let your fingers near his beak, he could take them off. Well, he might be a she

Idril: he might BITE my fingers off?

Yaban: he's got a strong beak

Idril: oh my goodness! *just looks at it from afar* why do you have him?

Yaban: giving him a nice walk as a favour to Eressil. And what brings you here, princess?

Idril: I was finally allowed to leave the palace, so I'm taking advantage of it! It's beautiful today *grins*

Yaban: Isn't it? I like this one. Not just the giant living tree part

Idril: *nods* I think it's my favorite part!

Yaban: she's been interviewed for some histories. Took months to get one sheet done.

Idril: I bet! It must have been exhausting!

Yaban: more boring. She takes forever to say a sentence and then thinks some more, and then tries another way of saying it, and then decides that it isn't worth saying at all

Idril: oh my goodness. *rubs her forehead* so you're taking the bird for a walk?

Yaban: yes, ma'am. It's good for her. Him.

Yaban: the red thing

Idril: *snickers* it lives with you?

Yaban: no, I don't have enough room to really let him spread his wings. And, you know, a pet is too much responsibility for a tired old scribe

Idril: you're hardly tired or old! *grins, feeling not like she's talking to a human, but just another person, and liking that*

Yaban: I come home with tired eyes and lay down in bed. No time at all for a poor little bird. If I had a stay at home wife, that'd be different. Someone could play with him

Idril: ahh. *nods* why don't you have a wife?

Yaban: Hm. Well, at home any budding romance was cut short by being conscripted to the war, and here I've been too busy with work and Luthien turned me down

Idril: wow, you tried with an elf? That's bold!

Yaban: I was always told to aim high

Idril: *grins* I've heard of Luthien. She's quite the catch, if you catch her!

Yaban: naw, she said no. Onto the next try. Just gotta keep at it.

Yaban: lots of lovely women in this city

Idril: are you searching for a wife, actively?

Yaban: well, I'd rather get to know the girl before wedding her

Idril: *laughs* ideally

Yaban: Decent warrior, good scribe, likes birds, can cook. There's my personal ad

Idril: *smiles* good ad!

Yaban: what does yours say?

Idril: hm. Princess, fun, flirty, likes to party... Good with toddlers? >.>

Yaban: toddlers? You have any running around?

Idril: no! My baby cousin. Aunt Ar's son

Yaban: Just checking. *lifts his arm to let the macaw take off briefly*

Idril: *looks up, watching it* how pretty

Yaban: they come in all sorts of colours. And can be right nasty. They learn to talk too

Idril: really? What do they say?

Yaban: anything they hear

Idril: so. Names?

Yaban: yes. For instance, I could teach him to say Idril

Idril: *grins* I'd like that!

Yaban: well, whatever the princess wants.

Idril: *happy smile*

Idril: ...I like you. You're a fun human. *smiles*

Yaban: glad I've surpassed expectations

Idril: *nods* it's good for me to make friends.

Yaban: *nod* that's how life's supposed to work

Idril: be my friend?

Yaban: *blinks* certainly. Of course

Idril: *grins* good!

Yaban: *catches the bird as it flies down* What do you want to do as your first friend act, Idril?

Idril: hm. How about a walk?

Yaban: Take you to the zoo to drop off my other friend?

Idril: oh sure! I haven't been there in a while

Yaban: I think, if history wasn't such a passion, a naturalist wouldn't be so bad.

Idril: *nods* what's your favorite animal? *gets up to go with him*

Yaban: I like oliphaunts.

Idril: what's an oliphaunt?

Yaban: they're like elephants, which we have, but much much bigger, with four tusks, and capable of carrying houses on their backs

Idril: houses! We don't have any here, do we?

Yaban: you do! But it's a baby. Eressil coos over it

Idril: can I see it? o.o

Yaban: I think you're allowed to see anything you want

Idril: *grins* introduce me to this baby!

Yaban: *takes the bird back to the aviary, flees the peacock, and takes her to where Eressil keeps the things that need a lot of room*

Oliphaunt baby: *the size of a horse and tumbling around after a ball*

Idril: *watches it, squeeing softly* Yaban, he's adorable!

Yaban: in a 'don't get beneath it' kinda way. *grins, likes it too*

Idril: oh, it's just so cute! I'd like to meet him! Could I do that?

Yaban: I just walk a bird, you're going to have to ask an actual worker here

Idril: *snickers* okay. *touches his arm comfortably as she leans against the railing*

Yaban: *smiles over at her and holds a bit of straw out for it to see if it'll come closer*

Eressil: Princess!

Idril: oh, hello!

Eressil: I'm honoured that you've come to my sanctuary! *curtsies*

Yaban: *little wave behind Idril*

Idril: *smiles at her* I wanted to see the new animals! Is it possible for me to meet the oliphaunt?

Eressil: certainly! *opens the gate* come with me, princess. Did Ruby's walk go well, Yaban?

Yaban: oh, we had loads of fun.

Eressil: excellent. Come along too *smiles and walks up to the humongous baby oliphaunt, arms held out peacefully*

Idril: *grins and walks near h er, but slightly behind, whispering* He's so big for a baby!

Yaban: they get much, much bigger.

Eressil: *cooing to it and brings it to them, hand on the leg* one of the pride and joys of my sanctuary.

Idril: he's just precious! Can I touch him?

Eressil: carefully.

Idril: *nods and reaches out, very slowly, to touch its leg too*

Oliphaunt baby: *touches her hair with his trunk*

Idril: *quiet squeeing and pets his leg lightly* he's so cute!

Eressil: I think so. *rubs behind his ear*

Yaban: *smaller than the elves and thus cautious, but enjoying his close-up of the elephant*

Idril: *just so excited by this huge baby and keeps petting him, grinning* Oh Yaban, this was a great idea!

Yaban: glad to be of service, princess *grinning*

Yaban and I played with an oliphaunt baby! It was so cute! I'm becoming less worried about meeting humans now, and I've actually made a friend with one!
