I've proven my worth.
Both Finrod and Ecthelion have noticed my hard work lately, and they rewarded me with a promotion. It's nice to be appreciated, and it takes some of the sting out of no longer being a Captain of Gondolin. One day, if I can't return home, I will be Captain of Gondor. In the meantime, I need to find Dred and celebrate!
Finrod: *calls Boromir into his office after reading the various reports*
Boromir: *straightens his collar and wonders what he's in for* Yes, sir?
Finrod: Come in! Have a seat. *gestures to a chair*
Boromir: *is slightly confused but sits* Yes, sir...
Finrod: I trust you're rested after the incident underground?
Boromir: *nods* Yes, sir. Now that the paperwork has been finished, I hope to take a day off.
Finrod: *nods* Of course. That's easily arranged. Name the day.
Boromir: *blinks, surprised at how accomodating he is* Friday? If that is not too short notice. *hopes to find Dred and spend some time with him*
Finrod: *makes a note of that* Done. Now, about this cult case. Both Ecthelion and I have been impressed by your diligence and ability. We've spoken and agree that it would only be right to award you a rank promotion to sergeant.
Boromir: *swallows down a grin and manages to almost keep a straight face* Thank you, sir. I appreciate it...and I promise I won't let you down. You or the Captain.
Finrod: *nods* I take that as an acceptance then?
Boromir: *stands at attention* Yes, sir. I would be honored, sir.
Finrod: Excellent. The formalities of it will of course not be held until the captain is more fully healed, but I trust you're willing to assume the extra responsibilities as soon as this change is made public?
Boromir: Yes, sir. Absolutely. Several of us have already taken on some of the extra work, so it should be a fairly smooth transition.
Finrod: That's good to hear. I do have a task I'd like you to oversee.
Boromir: *curious* Yes, sir?
Finrod: This was found after the battle. A manifesto of sorts. *slides a copy over to him* I'd like you to assign a few people to look into it, research any magic used in the foundation of the city, things like that.
Boromir: *takes it from him, gives it a quick look, then tucks it under his arm.* I'll get right on it. I know a few men who are knowledgeable about the city.
Finrod: Perfect. Anything you find, let me know. Second lieutenant Angwen is heading the examination of the premises underground, but you've been involved heavily in these cases, so your continued input there will be valuable as well.
Boromir: I'll let her know I'm available whenever she needs me. *clears his throat* I did have a question about the altar. Feanor seemed quite adamant that we destroy it. I wondered if that was wise, especially since it could hold some additional clues. What did you and the Captain decide?
Finrod: The altar will be kept as evidence and examined for residual dark magic and such. If you encounter any problems with Feanor on that account - or any other, for that matter - send him to me.
Boromir: Yes, sir. *would pay good money to see that confrontation go down*
Finrod: *outwardly disagreeing with Feanor is probably worthy of a promotion itself* Well! I believe that is all, unless there is anything else you'd like to know?
Boromir: No, sir...I believe I have been briefed on everything else. I'll read over this *pats the copy* and report back once I know more.
Finrod: *nods* Thank you. And do take Friday off.
Boromir: *slight bow* I will, thank you, sir.
Finrod: You're welcome.
Boromir: *takes his leave, grinning the whole way back to the guard house*
