Another day in the animal sanctuary

Fennecs: *race around Luthien*

Luthien: *holds the hem of her skirt up so they don't get their claws stuck in the fabric*

Fennecs: *so tiny and big ears and cavorty*

Fennecs: *little barks and run off to the other side of their pen*

Luthien: *picks up one and cuddles it*

Fennec: *tiny paws on her cheek*

Luthien: *tickles its belly*

Fennec: *wiggles happily*

Luthien: Aren't you the sweetest little thing? *carries it around like a fashion dog*

Fennec: *pretty happy about this state of affairs*

Eressil: *has brought food lizards for the fennecs*

Luthien: *to the fennec* Look, it's lunch time!

Fennec: *wiggles free and bounces down to go murder some lizard*

Luthien: Do you need help with those?

Eressil: please? The little beasts like their food alive. *going to the feeding area*

Luthien: *takes some of the lizards*

Eressil: *sets them down for the fennecs to hunt*

Fennecs: :D *scampering!*

Luthien: They're so adorable.

Eressil: I thought they were a type of cat at first

Eressil: and then maybe some sort of predator rabbit, like those horned ones I have

Luthien: There are horned rabbits?

Eressil: jackalopes. They're some of my more vicious creatures, so they're kept in a secure pen further out.

Fennec: *the one that was with Luthien comes up to her with a lizard in its mouth and settles by her feet to eat it*

Luthien: *grins* I'm glad I help out here. I enjoy working with the animals.

Eressil: animals seem to like you. And I can use that

Luthien: I like them, too. Animals are easy to understand.

Eressil: that's what I've always said. This whole time disruption has been the best thing to ever happen to me

Luthien: So many new kinds of creature to study and play with, right? *smiles*

Eressil: I'm like a child with thousands of new toys to choose from

Eressil: I cannot wait until that oliphaunt is grown. Just another forty years, according to the Haradrim who've arrived here

Luthien: How big is it supposed to get? It's already the size of a horse now.

Eressil: big enough to have a house on its back

Luthien: Will we have enough room to keep it?

Eressil: I'm going to have to see about finding it an area outside the city, so it can properly live. But I've got a long time to have it constructed, once I decide on the final design

Eressil: forty years isn't long in the grand scheme of things, but in reference to the time it takes to build an animal pen, it's no time at all

Luthien: I'm certain it will be wonderful. But hopefully we won't get too many more of them. Could you imagine a whole herd of them running around?

Eressil: *goes dazed and starry eyed*

Luthien: I'll take that as a yes.

Eressil: that would be astounding. Platypi now? I need to check their eggs

Luthien: Of course, let's see how they're coming along.

Eressil: *heads off with Luthien to check on them*

So the habitat I've made for the platypi is working excellently, and so is Luthien's training. She's become an excellent assistant in the sanctuary, even recruiting new people for me.

Other orders of business: I had an assortment of sheep:

Which I haven't been wholly sure what to do with, until one of the humans in this city, a woman named Nuala, came by to ask to shear them. So now they're enjoying spring.

Finally, I'm sending in another petition to the king to let me dredge the lake to see what sort of animals live in it, to examine. I've even got the plans drawn up for a tank to hold whatever I find.

He continues to refuse to let me have a terror bird.
