Turgon: *calls council to an end and waits for his sister at the door*
Aredhel: *joins him as the group dissipates* Hello, brother
Turgon: how was your first day of council? *takes her arm* It was an easy day, I'll admit. What did you think of the request slash demand I got from the human council members to make solid marriage laws?
Aredhel: *squeezes his arm* I'm not sure. We've never had a problem without them, since it's established when the two partners agree to it. I don't see why it can't be the same for the humans.
Turgon: they want me to say who can marry who, I've gotten a few elves demanding I keep dwarves out of it, some think that I should forbid humans and elves for their own 'protection', and the hobbit representative thinks I should make it illegal for anyone to take 'advantage' of their people. You missed those fun arguments. Oh, and the men and women issue.
Aredhel: Tell them you don't make those kinds of rules. Everyone is entitled to happiness, as long as it wasn't forced upon them.
Turgon: *nods* I need a diplomatic way to say 'let them sort it out themselves'
Aredhel: Hm. We'll have to think on that.
Turgon: and some of the reasons are, to put it bluntly, stupid.
Turgon: although what one of the humans told me about what... less than honourable people will do to others have me worried.
Aredhel: what do you mean?
Turgon: taking advantage of others. Like *frowns* Eol
Aredhel: ...ah. Are they worried some of the humans here would do that?
Turgon: to the others, yes. So I suppose I need to draw up some guideline for that.
Turgon: Elves are so much simpler, when we aren't slaughtering each other over pretty rocks
Aredhel: ...most elves, yes. But not all of us are above that, either
Turgon: like? And I'm aware I'm part of the rock slaughtering group
Aredhel: Elves like Eol. I know he can't have been the only elf who would take advantage of others.
Turgon: and I suppose I can't use forewarning to deal with all of them. I'll draft up a law. Want to help?
Aredhel: *nods* I'd like to. It's good to have someone with experience to help.
Turgon: I think it's the fact I have to put this down in law that galls me
Aredhel: *shrugs* We can't all be like Finrod, who's never done anything wrong on his own.
Turgon: I keep trying to convince him he married a dwarf in his future. I even made fake documents. He's not buying it, yet
Aredhel: *laughs* You know, now that there are dwarves in the city, it's entirely possible!
Turgon: it's little things like this that keep me going
Aredhel: And running the city, bugging your daughter and Lio and everyone else you care about, doing paperwork - the second love of your life...
Turgon: my paperwork is my lifeblood, true
Turgon: as is the screams of my daughter
Aredhel: *laughs and shakes her head* Please don't make my son scream, too
Turgon: he's doomed once he grows up, a new person for me to tease
Aredhel: Perhaps by then we'll be somewhere new. *teasing him*
Turgon: nope, you're stuck living with me
Aredhel: Says who!
Turgon: me! Decreed by the king himself
Aredhel: *grins* Brothers can't decree such things for their sisters
Turgon: stuck with me *tugs her close to him*
Aredhel: *kisses his cheek* Remember this was how it started last time?
Turgon: what, that I was right it was safer to stay with me?
Aredhel: No, that you tried to keep control over everything, including when I needed the freedom. *kisses his cheek again*
Turgon: mmph. 'm right usually, though
Aredhel: Many times you are, yes. That's why they call you wise. *smiles*
Turgon: good. Don't forget that! Now to see if I can settle my people.
Turgon: on the topic of marriage.
Turgon: What do you think about the idea of a school for when the population starts boosting in, er, that direction
Turgon: It's an interesting idea. Dwarves and humans have them, I've been asking all about them
Aredhel: Rather than tutors?
Turgon: *nods* since their children are closer in their age ranges.
Aredhel: I suppose it makes sense, if there are too many children to be taught at once
Turgon: so there's getting someone to plan THAT...
Aredhel: I can take care of that.
Turgon: really?
Aredhel: *nods* Mae will need schooling relatively soon as well. This will give me a good start into the system. And what else do I have going on?
Turgon: good point. Well, you're welcome to it. Gelgannel can get you started on what channels to go through
Aredhel: Good. *kisses his cheek* I'll start with him soon
Turgon: don't harass him, I've only given Idril permission for that
Aredhel: Oh?
Turgon: just saying
Aredhel: *pokes him* I don't harass people. And why would Idril harass him?
Turgon: she likes pretty boys
Aredhel: *laughs* Oh goodness. Was this to get her out from hiding?
Turgon: my amazing scheme, yes
Aredhel: Well, it seems to have worked!
Turgon: at the cost of a bit of Gel's sanity
Aredhel: That poor elf. Does she bother or go after him a lot?
Turgon: if she's in a good mood.
Aredhel: Oh?
Turgon: if she's not, she makes a point of ignoring him
Aredhel: *facepalms* Still so childish...
Turgon: I do baby her... *confesses*
Aredhel: I think it's time you stopped that. She is a grown elf now
Turgon: but she's my little girl
Aredhel: And she always will be. But do you need to baby her?
Turgon: *little shrug* I mean, with Elenwe gone...
Aredhel: She's grown now, though. She has me, all of her uncles, her friends. *squeezes his hand* I don't think you have to worry so much
Turgon: I suppose I could tell her to buckle down
Aredhel: Buckle what down, though?
Turgon: making her act maturely, I suppose
Aredhel: *pecks his cheek* Let her get there herself, just don't continue to baby her.
Turgon: yes, dear
Aredhel: Good brother. Now, where is my son...
Turgon: with Idril. He's probably eaten
Aredhel: *laughs* Poor child of mine. Shall we retrieve him?
Turgon: let's
