questioning a questionable witness
Clearly, the bird is unstable, but he's the only witness we have...
Theo: *getting ready for patrol, still keeping a low profile outof worry of being accused by Finrod*
Boromir: *swings by and grabs Theo's elbow* Hey. I'd like you to come with me. There's a raven named...Kak, I think at the animal sanctuary who was a witness.
Theo: what did the little con artist do?
Boromir: *eyebrows raised* As far as I know, inhaled some smoke. Saw a fire. Might have seen who started it. Regardless, we need to interview him.
Theo: mng. Has Dred told you about the ravens? They've been conning him out of money. Just keep in mind they're liars for this. *finishes getting ready* Ready
Boromir: *frowns* No, he hasn't. But I haven't seen much of Dred lately. *sighs and points the way* I'll be sure to keep an eye on my wallet.
Theo: I haven't really, either. I mean, he's eating the food I leave out but I don't really see him
Boromir: I wonder what he's doing? I need to go see him. *wonders if he's a bad boyfriend*
Theo: I'll try to set out a trap for him
Boromir: *grins* Try to make sure to not re-injure his leg, okay? *opens the door to the animal sanctuary* Where do they keep birds?
Theo: *flags down a worker and gets brought to where Kak is recovering*
Kak: *too miserable to really look presentable, a coughing giant ball of feathers*
Boromir: *scratches his chin and wonders how to address a bird* Kak? I'm Boromir, one of the captains of the guard, and I'd like to ask you a few questions about the fire.
Kak: get the horseman out *coughs*
Boromir: He's staying. Tell me what you saw.
Kak: I saw an attack! Murder!
Boromir: Someone has to die for it to be murder. Tell me more about the attack. Who attacked the store?
Kak: *firmly* horsemen.
Kal: liar! Liar!
Kak: *gets overwhelmed and has a coughing fit*
Boromir: *looks at Theo* I know you didn't attack Nuala or her store but...You do remember a while back, right? There were some Rohirrim who made some threats.
Theo: *uncomfortable look* the bird's a known liar
Kak: *angry fluff!*
Boromir: I don't doubt that, but I still want to hear what he has to say. *looks at Kak* What else did you see?
Kak: *sullen* a glass bottle that burned. I am not lying.
Boromir: Ah! *writes that down* Did you see who threw it?
Kak: *lies* I saw horsemen
Boromir: *frowns* You saw them actually throw the bottle? Light it on fire and throw it?
Kak: yes
Boromir: *looks at Theo, then writes that down* Can you tell me more about what they looked like? Other than just "horsemen."
Theo: *stony faced*
Boromir: Fine. Do you know what time it was when you saw the horsemen? And did you see anything else unusual?
Kak: it was sunset. And the fire. That was unusual *coughs*
Boromir: *makes a note, then looks at Theo* Did you have anything you wanted to ask? If not, let's walk over to the store again.
Theo: mng. I have no questions for the bird
Kak: ask your cat, then. *coughs and curls up into a ball*
Boromir: I don't think Theo's cat can say anything other than mmmrrrwowwll. *snaps his notebook shut* Let's go, Theo. I think Kak has said all he is going to say to us.
Kak: *chuckling as they leave*
Theo: mng. *quiet and unhappy*
Boromir: *heads toward the store* I didn't realize you two had such a bad rapport. It does make me wonder about what he said...about what is truthful and what is a lie.
Theo: well, after what he and his little friend did to Dred. And the fact he's friends with that Dunlending woman...
Boromir: Swindling Dred out of money is awful, I agree. The Dunlending woman, though, is a victim in this crime...and she's actually a nice person.
Theo: mng. *actually scared of her, but not going to admit that* not to me
Boromir: What has she ever done to you, Theo?
Theo: insulted and mocked, mostly
Boromir: *grins* Can't handle a bit of teasing? Come on, she can't be that bad.
Theo: look, just because your people don't have a history of being murdered by hers doesn't make my unease less valid here
Boromir: *sobers up a bit* I suppose you have a point...but can we just take her at face value for now? As the victim of a crime? We can deal with mass murders later on.
Theo: yeah. *frowns* Look, I believe she was attacked. I just... don't want it to be Rohirrim and I don't trust that bird
Boromir: Fair enough, and it may not be Rohirrim, but we need to at least investigate the possibility. And I did hear some guards threaten her...
Theo: *little nod* I want to clear this up
Boromir: *smiles* Me, too. Let's take a look at the store one more time and see if we missed anything.
