Meeting the crush's kids
Okay, so as I discussed with Theodred, the only historical examples of elf/human I knew of was elf woman and human man, so I decided to familiarize myself a bit with Feanor's... well, anatomy.
With a book. Because I doubt I could have gotten him to strip for an examination.
Theoden: *mentally goes over smooth replies in his head and enters the House of History in search of a specific book, glad that their printing presses have made it so he doesn't have to stay and study inside the house*
Caranthir: *back to work, away from Grima, glad that Turgon meant what he said*
Theoden: *comes up to him* hullo, I need some help finding a book.
Caranthir: *looks at the Man* Greetings, what is it that you need?
Theoden: *not-weird look he practiced* Elf anatomy. Sindarin, please.
Caranthir: *eyes him curiously* Are you perhaps a healer?
Theoden: *wants to lie, but is better at omission than outright lying* No, just--just curious.
Caranthir: *something Celegorm said comes to his mind* Are you a guard? *wonders if Turukano is training Men to attack Elves*
Theoden: *tugs at his braid nervously, was hoping to just get the book* Yeah. But this has nothing to do with that.
Caranthir: *doesn't believe him but gives him the book anyway* Here.
Theo" *takes it, eyes lighting up* Thanks! *hoping this'll answer a lot of his Feanor questions*
Caranthir: I hope you don't use it against us.
Theoden: *distracted, paging through* oh, no, my plans are entirely beneficial
Caranthir: *looks at the Man again* Are you the guard who has a crush on my father?
Theoden: I have no idea who your father is. *bright red face, snapping the book closed* I'll just go pay for this and leave now.
Caranthir: *takes the book from him* You can't take this home. It's a rare volume, so read it here.
Theoden: are there any that aren't rare? *frowns* I was hoping to just buy one.
Caranthir: *is starting to really dislike Men, save for Yaban who is nice* You can't buy this one. Maybe when copies are made, but now. Healers might need it. They might have reasons other than pleasure to read this book.
Theoden: *shoulder slump* I'll read it here. Sorry.
Caranthir: And be quick. *Shows him to a sit. Hopes nobody has heard him scolding the small pervert. It has to be him...*
Theoden: *opens the page about the strength of elves, mostly looking to make sure he won't be hurt*
Caranthir: *stays close, still wondering if this is about Turukano and not about his father*
Theoden: *frowns, realizing how easy he got off on his confrontations with Celegorm as he goes over the abilities of elves*
Caranthir: Are you planning to attack an Elf?
Theoden: no. But I've nearly been attacked by a few. Why?
Caranthir: Because you are a guard. Why would any Elf attack you?
Theoden: well. I'm trained for general fighting, all this is telling me is how lucky I've been. And elves have attacked me for all reasons. Breaking up drunken fights, or just getting in their way.
Caranthir: I see... Well, you don't stand a chance against an Elf, so better stay clear from them.
Theoden: I can't do that. I'm a guard, it's my job to protect this city, even if it means I may get hurt.
Caranthir: *dislikes guards intensely now* If you get killed Turukano will blame everything on my family.
Theoden: what? Where did you get that from?
Caranthir: *shrugs* Everyone here blames Fëanorians when bad things happen.
Theoden: I can assure you that if I'm killed in a drunken bar brawl, unless a Feanorian happened to be involved, your family's name won't even come up. *realizing Celegorm is telling everyone about his crush. Damn*
Caranthir: *eyes him angrily* You know nothing... what is your name?
Theoden: *offended look* Theoden. Is there a reason that you're being so hostile? All I wanted to do was read a book.
Caranthir: Theoden? *frowns* Just stay away from my father. He has a wife, you know?
Theoden: I have the freedom to associate with who I want, and I enjoy my visits to Feanor, so they will continue. *turns the page of the book* Celegorm's bullying is bad enough, but I have no interest in having another one of you join in. *stiff, formal tones*
Caranthir: I knew Men didn't have honor.
Theoden: I wasn't aware not treating your father like a pariah was a sign I had no honour. *pulled out his notebook to write down some observations from his reading*
Caranthir: Trailing my father, you mean, so you can run back to tell Turukano that he is not doing anything that is a threat to this city.
Theoden: ...wait. You think I'm spying on Feanor?
Caranthir: You might have a crush on him, but you are of Turgon's people. You are supposed to be loyal to him, so yes, I think you are spying on him. I do know you were spying on my brother.
Theoden: *sighs and sets aside the book* I was set to trail your brother because he'd acquired something very dangerous. The captain wanted to know what he'd do next, I guess. He didn't fill me in. I'm not a spy, and I don't report back on your father. You know what I do with your father? I bring him coffee and I look at what he's created and talk with him. I'm not doing anything underhanded or wicked. I just like being able to know one of the most powerful elves in history. The only thing the captain has said about my association with Feanor is that he'd rather I'd stay away, but can't tell me what to do with my *personal* time.
Caranthir: *would believe Theoden if he didn't remember Turukano's words about taints and such* Do whatever you wish, but if you dare hurt my family I will make you pay for it. Here I am a scribe, but out there I am my father's son. Remember it.
Theoden: can we try this again? Hello, I'm Theo, I have no intention of harming anyone and I'm pleased to meet you. And you are?
Caranthir: I am Morifiwë Carnistir, and we are not friends. Take all the time you need with the book, but leave it here. I didn't lie when I said it was rare. I apologize for being rude to client. It won't happen again. *turns around and stalks away*
Theoden: that could have gone a lot better. *frowning, but relieved he can finally look at the pages he needed the book for*
Apparently I come off as a spy now?
