Encounters with family and technology.

I ran into my brother this evening...

Caranthir: *still irritated about meeting Boromir, goes out for a walk*
Maglor: *calls out* Carnistir!
Caranthir: *smiles* Kano! How are you? I heard you sing.
Maglor: I am well. You came to the festival? I did not see you! *though is not surprised*
Caranthir: I came to hear you sing. The rest of the time I have been doing a special research. Turko wanted me to look for references about secret passages.
Maglor: Did you find anything interesting?
Caranthir: Only that there were old passages here before the city was built, and that Turukano's people closed them all. Maybe they forgot this one?
Maglor: Maybe! Or closed it badly.
Caranthir: Probably. I wonder if they closed it with magic. We found a warg there, and it seems we don't have wargs yet so maybe it was something related to the city's problem?
Maglor: That's what I think! I understand Turko's concern that anything could appear there, but I don't think it's a trap.
Caranthir: Neither I, but... Turko made me wonder if I had taken you to a trap... *has a crazy idea about going alone first*
Maglor: Whatever it is, it's a good thing I was there, don't you think?
Caranthir: *nods quietly* Yes...
Maglor: We can all explore it together, sometime.
Caranthir: *is not easy to lie to Maglor* Unless... Maybe I could go first? With a sword and a lamp?
Maglor: *arches an eyebrow* Alone?
Caranthir: *feels absurdly young, and it's not fair* Just in case it's a trap..
Maglor: *purses his lips slightly* I am not sure that's a good idea.
Caranthir: *shrugs* All right... I just didn't want to get you killed, or Turko killed again.
Maglor: *squeezes his shoulder* Don't worry about me being killed. I am pretty good with a sword.
Caranthir: *looks at him* I suppose you are. I should go to see Father and get my sword. Will you practice with me when I have it?
Maglor: *smiles* Of course, Moryo.
Elladan: *sees Maglor... and another Elf*
Caranthir: *smiles* Thank you, Kano!
Maglor: You're welcome! *gives in to the urge to ruffle his hair*
Caranthir: *groans* I'm not a child, you know?
Elladan: *wonders if he should come another day*
Maglor: I promise I will do this until you are a thousand!
Caranthir: *rolls his eyes, but is secretly happy to have found his brothers, even if they see him as a child* I should be going then... *frowns* Who is that?
Elladan: Greetings...
Maglor: *looks up, waves to Elladan* That is Elladan. I knew his father. *huge understatement, but*
Caranthir: *looks at Elladan* You did? He seems familiar... *nods in greeting*
Maglor: I did! Hello, Elladan.
Elladan: Hello, Maglor. *turns to the other Elf* Hello, I am Elladan, son of Elrond.
Caranthir: *Oh... puts up a friendly face for Maglor's sake* I am Morifinwë, son of Fëanáro *the boy isn't to blame for being Turgon's relative*
Maglor: *motions to Caranthir* My brother. How are you, Elladan? Did you make it to the festival?
Elladan: *smiles at Caranthir, trying to reconcile the boy with the Elf he’s read about* Well met, Morifinwë. I was there for a while, not at the ball. I did hear you sing. *smiles*
Caranthir: Well met, Elladan. I should be going now. I want to visit Father.
Maglor: Take care, Moryo! *to Elladan* Did you enjoy it? *curious, means the whole festival, not just his singing*
Caranthir: *waves and leaves*
Elladan: Yes, I enjoyed the festival, and your singing too. Father always said you had a beautiful voice.
Maglor: *amused smile* Yes. Have you begun your guard work?
Elladan: I will begin tomorrow. I am anxious to do something else than walk in the city.
Maglor: *nods understandingly* Yes, having a purpose is doubly necessary in a hidden city! Have you met many new people?
Elladan: Not really... Well, I met Gelgannel in the palace. I met Ecthelion... Eowyn too in the Healing House. Oh, and a guard named Theoden, who said he wasn't "the Theoden".
Maglor: "The Theoden"? I wonder what that means!
Elladan: There was a King of Men named Theoden. Actually Eowyn was his niece. He was the King of Rohan, and died fighting to help Gondor against Sauron's army.
Maglor: I remember hearing about him! So he's a different Theoden? Or just...thinks he is?
Elladan: I don't know. He has the same hair, but I didn't spend so much time with him to know. Eowyn would know. I should ask her the next time I see her.
Maglor: *nod* I haven't met this Theoden, but I've heard an earful about him.
Elladan: *curious* Really? You don't seem to have heard good things...
Maglor: I'm afraid what I've heard is rather biased! *slight grin* Don't worry about it.
Elladan: All right. I wanted to show you something I bought.
Maglor: *curious* Well, you've caught my attention!
Elladan: *takes it out* This is called a camera. It takes pictures. The Elf who sold it to me in the market said that there were others like this, so I could have it.
Maglor: *grins* Oh! Can I see it?
Elladan: Of course! I haven't tried it yet, but I thought you'd like to see it.
Maglor: *turns it over in his hands* Humans make extraordinary things, don't they?
Elladan: They do. I don't think I understand how it works. The Elf said click this button here...
Maglor: *aims at random, snapping a picture* I think it has to do with light on the film... *peers at the picture, waiting for it to fade into focus*
Elladan: Oh! It looks very nice... Almost like magic. *grins*
Maglor: *chuckles, handing the camera back* Almost! Could be magic for all my poor understanding of the physics invovled.
Elladan: Can I take... Just for fun.. Your picture, I mean. Or you could take mine.
Maglor: Sure.
Elladan: *thinks that Maglor must have had his picture taken, but this is new for him* All right... Click as the Elf said... *smiles* Look! That's you!
Maglor: *laughs* Just don't tell any of my brothers about it. I don't want to tempt them into trying to catch incriminating pictures.
Elladan: I promise. Can I keep it? That way they won't see it... Speaking of which, that was Caranthir, wasn't he? He is barely of age...
Maglor: Of course you may keep it. And yes, that was Caranthir. The same strangeness with time has made him younger than when we came to Middle-earth.
Elladan: *carefully tucks the picture away* He was more friendly than I expected. *grins* As long as Elrohir doesn't show up here as a toddler...
Maglor: *chuckles* I have the same thought about Curvo and Ambarussa!
Elladan: *laughs* Have you had dinner? I was just going to find something to eat.
Maglor: I haven't! Might I join you?
Elladan: Please do!

Tyelkormo must never learn there are cameras.
