Work got...interesting the other day as something I never thought was possible ended up happening. Someone from where I'm from came into the House of History on my shift. ...Well, sort of someone from there anyway.
Theo: *comes into the House of History to find either poetry or comics*
Idis: *transcribing for now, humming the tune under her breath as she does*
Grima: : *knows damn well that's his prince, although he's used to an older Theoden and goes past Idis, practically snickering*
Idis: *glances up, curious at that because really, what now with Grima: ?*
Grima: : *smoothest voice* Hello, Prince Theoden.
Theo: ...oh. Um. Well, hello.
Idis: *perks up at that and starts listening as she translates*
Grima: : it is an honour to finally speak to you on one of your visits. *isn't mentioning the reason he didn't see Theoden when he came for the elf anatomy was the orders to stay away from Caranthir*
Theo: *stands tall and tries to look properly respectable* I'm afraid I'm no one's leader here. You don't have to call me any titles.
Grima: : ah, as you say. How may I help you? *planning to get in good now in case they do all get back to Rohan*
Theo: well, poetry. I'd like poetry.
Grima: : well! You know, I have just the thing. It's so fresh no one else has seen it yet *leads Theo over to Idis* Idis, dear, that work you were doing yesterday?
Idis: I do have that here yes. *decides to go with this for the chance to see her father as...well...young and awkward and everything* But it's likely something you'll have seen before. Songs of the Mark. Finally transcribed.
Theo: *wide smile* I'd love to see that. I haven't heard any of those for over a year, and even just reading them would be wonderful.
Grima: : she's got quite the collection locked away in her head *polite smiles*
Idis: I do try, yes. *smiles at Theo and goes to get some* I have...a few I've done so far and more coming.
Grima: : *all praise for Idis, since getting along with her makes him look good* Idis here is a bard, and quite a talented one. She has a memory for our stories I envy. I merely work on the history *humbly*
Theo: *excited, looking through them* this is wonderful! I don't think I ever considered they'd be written down.
Idis: *decides to simpyl play Grima 's game* I have an ear and a memory is all that it is. It just seemed...time that someone have a way to share them with...everyone else.
Theo: I don't suppose I could hear you recite some time. Would that be okay? *looks up from the papers, excited*
Idis: I would enjoy that yes. *smiles* Some of my instruments even made it here with me. I would love another chance to use them.
Theo: that would be great! When would a good time be? I'll get you dinner and everything.
Idis: *smiles* I'm free in the late afternoons and evenings. *decides to gently find a way to reveal all *
Theo: wonderful! I may bring my friends Eowyn and Dred to listen. They'd love it, I'm sure.
Grima: : *eyebrow raise, there was a just born baby Theodred in his time*
Idis: Eowyn *smiles* I...there is one in my time. It would be good to meet another.
Theo: maybe it's the same one. *smiles at her* She's a healer here in the city
Idis: Mine is...far younger than to be a healer I'm afraid. But still. Close enough to home that it will be good.
Theo: great! I'll tell them. Thank you very much, Idis *bows to her* and you-- *questioning look at Grima. *
Grima: Grima, son of Galmod, sir. *bows back, lower*
Theo: thank you, Grima *heads out, waving to them both at the door*
Idis: *smiles and waves*
Grima: : *cheerful whistle and heads back to his desk*
Idis: *debates what she's going to say later on, but glad that she's met Theoden here at least*
Grima: : that went well.
Idis: Yes that did really. Thank you for the recommendations *credit where it's due after all*
Grima: : *inclines his head to her, no snide comment*
I don't know how to tell him that where I'm from, which has to be far later on, that we're related. That my father is Theoden King. It's not something I've tried to hide, and I don't intend to hide it but finding a way to break that news, and bringing up my mother is...I'm not sure. I don't know that there IS an easy way to bring it up. Why are there no songs or tales or accounts for THIS sort of thing again?
