(no subject)

I can't believe it's after midnight and I'm just getting home from work. I really hope we catch a break in these murders soon...

Angwen: *yanks the bell to Lio's home*
Ecthelion: *just dozed off; sits up* What the heck....
Angwen: *at the door, waiting and resisting the urge to yank again*
Ecthelion: *stumbles out of bed and to the door; not bothering to dress, only wearing his pajama pants*
Angwen: *quick bow* Hello, sir. I think there's going to be a murder tonight.

Ecthelion: *blinks* Angwen. You think what? Why?
Angwen: I just took the king's younger brother to the house of healing after he was attacked. As much as I could make out from what he said, his attacker was stolen away by another group of elves. I thought it was worth waking you up from bed.
Ecthelion: Yeah. Right. It was.
Angwen: will sir be getting dressed to go look or do you trust my eyes?
Ecthelion: I'm getting dressed, gimme a minute. *hurries back to his room*
Angwen: *reviewing the events in her head, to make sure it's clear for retelling*
Ecthelion: *comes out, fully dressed* Okay, let's go. You can tell me on the way.
Angwen: I had Nyel go to the guards you already had working on the case and went straight to you once I was done with the prince.
Angwen: *starts leading, filling Lio in on what she knows*
Ecthelion: Is the prince okay?
Guards: *out with lights, searching the street*
Angwen: he was acting loopy.
Angwen: I had to carry him to the house of healing
Ecthelion: *shakes his head* But the king is with him?
Angwen: He was being called for when I left.
Ecthelion: Okay, good. So elves with torches, hmm?
Angwen: *nods* Not the crystals we use. *catches up with the guards following the trail and get to where the fight takes place, with blood splatted on the stones*
Ecthelion: *glances down* Was the prince badly injured?
Angwen: No. But he smelled off. *sniffs the air* I can sort of smell whatever it was here. A chemical scent.
Ecthelion: Hmm, so maybe the torches or what they used to drug him?
Angwen: He didn't say where they appeared from, but given the proclivity of alleyways... *waves her crystal at a darkened one right by the scene* Sir, I would be honoured if you would go down a dark alley with me after a potential pack of killers
Ecthelion: What the hell, why not?
Angwen: *lights a cigarette before stepping inside* You know. For luck. And something to shove in an eye.
Ecthelion: *considers* You're a good guard, Angwen.
Angwen: I try, sir. I think I'm suited to it. *leads the way, as a sort of shield for the captain in case they get attacked, holding out her crystal for light*
Ecthelion: *looking around* Hey... what's this? *crouches down*
Angwen: *holds the crystal for him to bring it to light* looks like they dropped something.
Ecthelion: Well, it's the first real piece of evidence we've got so far...
Angwen: looks like a torch. Is it still warm?
Ecthelion: Mmm, yes.
Angwen: *pleased hum* so. Deeper?
Ecthelion: *grabs it* Yes.
Angwen: *keeps going, eyes narrowed, watching for anything attacking them until they suddenly come to a deadend*
Ecthelion: Damnit.
Angwen: *looks over at Lio* so. Any of the doors we passed. I was sort of hoping for a straight up fight, I hate elves who slink around
Ecthelion: We're going to need more people. To check out all these doors.
Angwen: *nod* My shift's not over for a few more hours, I can help get that organized if you want to go back to sleep, sir
Ecthelion: I'd appreciate it, but I'm not going back to sleep. I should go see the king.
Angwen: *bows* As you wish, sir. *walks out with him, not dumb enough to stay in murder-pack alley*
Ecthelion: Take as many guards as you need. We need to get to the bottom of this. *hands her the torch* Take this back with you.
Angwen: Yes, sir. *bows and gets to work*

Ecthelion: *heads to the palace*
Turgon: *composing a message for Lio for when he thinks Lio will wake up*
Ecthelion: *knocks* Boss?

Turgon: Oh! Come in. You just saved me a letter. *puts the paper in the scrap pile*
Ecthelion: *comes in, looking tired*
Turgon: *gets up and gets Lio to the couch, sitting with him* my brother was born under a bad sign
Ecthelion: *sinks down on the couch* He does seem to be a ... magnet for trouble.
Turgon: He couldn't even come to middle earth without being killed
Ecthelion: Well.... bright side is that he's still alive now.
Turgon: Yes. I really was hoping you'd get a night off
Ecthelion: *stretches out of the couch, puts his feet on Turgon* I really need one. Just one.
Turgon: *tugs Lio to rest on him and pats his head* are your people handling it?
Ecthelion: Yes. Angwen's getting a squad to go door to door, and Gwaedhom is very good. And Boromir will be on in the morning, and he's excellent.
Turgon: good. I don't think I'm going to be able to go back to sleep. Staying up with me or do you want to sleep here while I work?
Ecthelion: What are you working?
Turgon: just paperwork to clear my mind.
Turgon: new zoning stuff
Ecthelion: I'm just going to lie here for a while...
Turgon: *wraps an arm  around Lio and just rests on the couch with him*
Ecthelion: Sorry we didn't find that elf who attacked your brother. *sighs* Before he attacked him again.
Turgon: I don't blame you. I know you all do your best, and all things considered, you do an amazing job
Turgon: I wouldn't have any other elf as my captain
Ecthelion: Thanks. They're all doing their best.
Turgon: I know.
Ecthelion: I think ... even though it was trouble for your brother... this was a good break for the case tonight.
Turgon: good. Then something good came of it.
Ecthelion: Still I'm sorry he had to go through it.
Turgon: he's just bruised up
Ecthelion: *shakes his head* The poor kid. He must be terrified. Do you want me to assign him a guard?
Turgon: yes. I'd appreciate that.
Turgon: someone he wouldn't notice
Ecthelion: Mmm. That leaves out Theoden.
Turgon: Oh yes. Theoden. I met him today. *doesn't remember the other times, really*
Ecthelion: You've met him before. *smiles* Anyway, he's not good with covert surveillance. We learned our lesson with Celegorm.
Turgon: Celegorm, the hunter? I bet he noticed anyone you used
Ecthelion: *nods, yawning* No more surveillance for him...
Turgon: *leans his head back against the couch* I think  I can nap now
Ecthelion: My couch. *teasing*
Turgon: *little cuddle* yeah, yeah. Go to sleep
Ecthelion: *falls into a troubled sleep*
Turgon: *drops off himself*

He wakes early in the morning on the couch. Turgon is gone, so he splashes some cold water on his face and makes his way to the office...
