Theo: I think she just doesn't like our cooking
Eowyn: *making Melkor set the table*
Melkor: *trying to give himself all the knives*
Eowyn: One knife per person!
Melkor: but don't I deserve a reward?
Eowyn: Knives are not a reward. I made brownies for dessert. That can be your reward.
Melkor: *decides that's a fair deal and re-allocates the knives*
Melkor: does Eddie get a brownie too? *pats the dog*
Eowyn: *putting finishing touches on the dinner* No, chocolate isn't good for dogs.
Melkor: but it's delicious. How can it be bad?
Eowyn: It's bad for dogs. Not for you.
Melkor: I hate this world. *done with the setting of the table and runs off with the dog. Until Theo and Dred arrive, anyway*
Theo: *knocks*
Eowyn: Come in!
Theo: hellllo.
Eowyn: Hi! Dinner is almost ready!
Dred: Hey *smiles at Eowyn* Need help with anything? *has two hands again since he doesn't need the stick!*
Eowyn: No, everything is all set. Thank you. How's your foot?
Theo: *tries to avoid taking out some scattered Melkor art supplies that got missed in the cleaning* Sorry it's been so long since we came over
Dred: *grins* It's great.
Eowyn: Good, I'm glad!
Theo: now I can make him do all sorts of chores around the house
Dred: *laughs* Which I owe him, so it works out
Eowyn: *pours them each a glass of wine* I can imagine!
Theo: it's his duty as my son to take care of me in my old age.
Eowyn: *pauses* What?
Theo: oh yes, I'm getting on in years. I'll be twenty one soon. Ancient
Eowyn: *glances at Dred* Son?
Theo: you knew. Everyone was lying to me. For my own good, I suspect, but still.
Dred: *sighs* He found out yeah. It was...helped along.
Theo: I've got a grandson!
Eowyn: Well, you DID tell me not to mention ANYTHING to you.
Theo: yeah, you I'm not gonna hit. Dred got a shoulderbruise
Melkor: *barrels into Dred with Edric* hiiii!
Theo: careful! We just fixed him!
Eowyn: And grandson? *looks at Dred*
Dred: His name is Elfwine. Eomer's son.
Dred: Melly! *grins at her and scoops her up*
Melkor: I taught Edric a new trick! *holds onto Dred's neck and grins*
Theo: I apparently just go around raising people
Eowyn: Yes, Elfwine is my nephew.
Dred: He seems ah...
Dred: Twitchy.
Eowyn: He's HERE?
Theo: Yep.
Melkor: *bored of this other people talk and tries to get Dred to watch* Edric! Speak!
Edric: BARK
Dred: *impressed!* That is VERY good
Melkor: Eowyn said that teaching him to attack was a bad idea, so I'm being creative
Eowyn: *still trying to talk about Elfwine* Where is he living? Do you see him often? How old is he?
Theo: I don't know where he's living, we've seen him just a few times, he's around Dred's age, isn't he? He looks your age, Dred
Theo: it's basically weird socializing
Dred: I think he is yeah. Give or take a couple of years. He was in the pub. ...Drinking tea. *because even HE isn' that sad and pathetic*
Eowyn: I'll have to look him up. *nods to everyone* I'll bring out the dinner if you want to sit down!
Theo: He works for the government
Eowyn: With the king? *starts serving the meal, and give a big bone to Edric*
Melkor: *climbs off Dred and into a chair*
Theo: *nods* He's decided to do his duty to the people, unlike me and Dred
Dred: *laughs* He's actually on the Council. Sometimes I wonder if I hadn't freaked out what that'd have been like but...I'm happy not knowing.
Eowyn: *sits with them* It seems like a better plan for both of you to be guards. *grins*
Theo: I like being a guard. It's teaching me responsibility
Melkor: should all just let me be in charge. *arms too stubby to get at the food in the middle of the table and looks at Dred and Eowyn beseechingly*
Dred: And I like it too. I'm not as self conscious as I was when I first got here. Okay, so there's a lot more rohirrim here now too, which helps.
Eowyn: *serves them all; has made a nice beef stew*
Dred: Oh this looks amazing, Eowyn. *approves!*
Theo: I figure if I can prove to the Captain I'm worth putting in charge of anything, I've earned it
Melkor: *getting trained in manners by Eowyn* thank you *digs in*
Eowyn: You're welcome. *to Theo* Are you up for a promotion?
Theo: Thanks, this smells great *smiles at Eowyn* And I'm so not. I want to be one day, though
Theo: My current plan is to do the best job I can
Theo: I think that may be effective
Dred: Usually that works out for the best when people do
Theo: you wanna try it too? We can have a do our best death pact
Eowyn: *nods* It does seem like a good plan. Work hard, and you can get ahead -- no death pacts at my table.
Theo: *hangs his head in mock penance* sorry, Eowyn
Dred: No death pacts. But maybe some sort of forfeit. Like, I don't know. *considers* Somethng mildly embarrassing in front of Essam...
Dred: Whenever we break the pact...
Theo: Bet he'd like that. *to Eowyn* he's one of the people on our shift
Dred: *laughs* He used to teach weapons in Umbar. He seems to think those of us who came on later are his students.
Theo: I'm great with my sword! Except for almost taking your arm off when I managed to miss the dummy
Theo: it's a very nice sword. Feanor made it for me
Eowyn: Oh lord.
Melkor: *shudders at that name*
Dred: *snerk* And when I can see things, I'm very good. *eyes Melly* It's okay. you don't have to see or talk to him
Eowyn: *nods* He'll never see you, Melly.
Theo: I'm seeing if I can find someone who can make Dred glass second eyes like I keep seeing around the city
Melkor: WHY are you even talking to him! *lamenting voice*
Theo: you know, a lot of people ask me that, Melly
Melkor: it's not good! It's bad! It's very bad!
Theo: I promise I'll never bring him near you, okay *soothing voice*
Melkor: mnnng.
Dred: It's okay *leans over to squeeze Melly's hand* I think he's also trying to be reformed these days if that helps. But he won't get near you and if he does, we'll take care of it until you're big enough
Melkor: *little nod, and holds onto Dred's hand*
Eowyn: *smiles* See, I told you no one would make you talk to him.
Melkor: I just need to get strong again
Eowyn: Keep working on growing.
Melkor: *holds out bowl for more soup, then*
Eowyn: *gives her more*
Melkor: thanks. *digs in*
Theo: so did I raise you okay? Not many beatings?
Eowyn: *smiles* You did, yes.
Theo: oh good. Good. *grins at her*
Dred: *laughs* and I didn't give you complexes I hope?
Eowyn: Oh terrible ones. *smiles at him*
Theo: I certainly did that to my little sisters
Eowyn: Yes, I've heard. *laughs*
Theo: that's one of the worst parts of being here. Wynnie was so tiny when I vanished, I'm missing her growing up
Eowyn: *nods*
Theo: cute as a button
Eowyn: She grew up rather lovely. *from what she remembers*
Theo: good. She looked a lot like mom, so that's not surprising
Dred: The last that I saw her, yes, she was beautiful. *smiles* Even when she was ill
Eowyn: *nods*
Theo: *tries not to react at the 'sick and dying' revelation about his baby sister*
Dred: *gives Theo a sympathetic smile* She had a good life. You stayed close for all of it.
Eowyn: She loved you very much.
Theo: *little nod* ...she's a really sweet little girl
Eowyn: *smiles*
Angwen: *tracked down her errant shift-underlings and raps her knuckles on Eowyn's door*
Eowyn: *goes to open the door* Hello?
Angwen: ma'am, are constables Theoden and Theodred here?
Eowyn: Oh, uh. Yes, they're here. *calls them* Theo! Dred!
Theo: *puts down his fork and goes to the door*
Angwen: *nods to her constables* Sorry to interrupt your night off. We need all our men. Say your goodbyes.
Theo: yes, sir. Sorry, Eowyn
Eowyn: That's okay. I hope nothing it's not another murder.
Angwen: *thin smile, but doesn't confirm anything and leaves with Dred and Theo*
Dred: That WOULD be pretty bad. *gives Melly a last hug and then waves over his shoulder as they go*
Eowyn: Good luck!
Melkor: *waves! and tries to stay out of sight at the same time because elf*
Eowyn: *making Melkor set the table*
