Melkor: *walking along in Eowyn's backyard with Eddie, hitting the posts of the fence with a stick* I don't think we need to repaint it
Eowyn: Well, it's all banged up and chipped, and we want it to look nice.
Melkor: I think it has a *brain searches for the word* rustic charm. *feeling lazy*
Eowyn: No, it just looks dilapitated. *gets out the paint*
Melkor: can Eddie paint too?
Eowyn: I don't think Eddie's much of a painter. But here... he can dig there. *points out a patch of dirt* I want to plant some things for the garden.
Melkor: *tugs Eddie over and points down* Dig! Your master commands it! *little girl voice*
Eowyn: *hands Melly a paintbrush* Now let's start.
Melkor: *tries to write his name first, his tutor's been teaching him*
Eowyn: *patiently shows her how to paint the fence*
Melkor: *stands beside Eowyn imitating* we're gonna have lemonade after, right?
Eowyn: *nods* Yes. And then we'll plant the garden.
Melkor: not too many vegetables.
Eowyn: *nods* Just enough vegetables. And herbs.
Melkor: and a bramble hedge to keep out intruders!
Eowyn: I think a bramble hedge might spoil the nice look. Maybe some flowers instead.
Melkor: thorny flowers? *thinking of the sleeping princess story that Eowyn read him the other night*
Eowyn: *acquiesces* Perhaps a FEW roses...
Melkor: *claps his hands excitedly without thinking, and forgetting he's got a wet paintbrush in hand*
Eowyn: *grins* Whoops. *hands her a rag to clean off with, having anticipated this*
Melkor: *mutters and rubs at the white paint, mostly streaking it* Eddie, are you digging?
Eowyn: *glances over, Edric has given up on the digging in favor of napping in the sun* We can help him when we're done with the fence.
Melkor: *SIGH* Eddie
Melkor: *gets back to painting, dreaming of lemonade now that things are getting hotter*
Eowyn: *when they finish the painting* Very good! I'll go get us some lemonade, then we'll start the garden.
Melkor: *scurries under the shade, grabbing his dog for a cuddle*
Eowyn: *comes back with lemonade for both of them, a dish of water for Eddie*
Melkor: don't you get enough at... whatever you do to buy food? *sips his lemonade*
Eowyn: I do, but it's nice to do it ourselves.
Melkor: If *I* had needed food when I was Melkor, I would have had servants bring it to me all the time
Melkor: ...not was. Am. Am Melkor
Eowyn: *nods* Of course, but we don't have servants. And it's nice to make our own garden.
Melkor: my tutor's not a servant?
Eowyn: No. She's a tutor, which is different.
Melkor: I want a servant. *climbs into Eowyn's lap to look her in the eyes* we should get one!
Eowyn: *shakes her head* We don't need one.
Melkor: but but but!
Eowyn: No, we can take care of ourselves.
Melkor: *sits back in Eowyn's lap and sulks, arms crossed and bottom lip stuck out*
Eowyn: *to distract* Come on, we're going to finish digging the garden*
Melkor: *still pouting but gets off Eowyn*
Eowyn: *shows Melly how to dig and plant the seeds* This will give us a nice crop of vegetables.
Melkor: I don't LIKE vegetables. Can we make anything for ice cream?
Eowyn: We're growing strawberries as well. And you will probably like THESE vegetables. They always taste better when you grow them yourself.
Melkor: Really? *eyes Eowyn in case this is, unexpectedly, a trick*
Eowyn: *nods* And I'll teach you how to prepare them so they taste even better. And then we can have the king over for dinner. *slides this last bit in casusally*
Melkor: *FREEZE* why would we have him over
Eowyn: *still casually digging and planting seeds* Because he is my friend and I'd like to invite him over.
Melkor: he's an elf! Elves aren't friends!
Eowyn: *not reacting, still casual* The elves are my friends. They have been very nice to me. And to you as well, you must admit.
Melkor: just because they've been fooled by this body! *voice getting higher in panic* don't bring him over! He'll know! He'll kill me!
Eowyn: *stops digging and pulls her in to a hug* That will never happen. I won't let it.
Melkor: he's bigger than you! *holding into Eowyn's dress*
Eowyn: I'm not afraid of him.
Melkor: I am
Melkor: *claps hands over his mouth*
Eowyn: *pets* I know. But I won't let anything happen to you.
Melkor: not afraid. I didn't say that. *upset and trying to wriggle free to go hide, bright red from shame at saying that and generally six years old and upset*
Eowyn: It's okay. *pets*
Melkor: *why* do you like him?
Eowyn: Because he's kind to me, and has been a good friend.
Melkor: *sniffs* but he's an elf...
Eowyn: He's not evil. *firmly but reassuring*
Melkor: ...you won't let him do anything to me?
Eowyn: Never.
Melkor: *frowns and hugs Eowyn's neck* ...okay
Eowyn: *smiles* And you won't do anything to him either.
Melkor: if he starts it!
Melkor: *tries to look tough*
Eowyn: *firmly* He will not. And you will not.
Melkor: mng. *keeps holding onto Eowyn*
Eowyn: It will be fine. *rubbing her back*
Melkor: ...can I go inside? *wipes his eyes* just for a bit
Eowyn: Yes, of course.
Melkor: *runs in to wash his face*
Eowyn: *finishes up her planting*
Melkor: *rejoins for the flower part*
Well, that didn't go awfully.
Eowyn: Well, it's all banged up and chipped, and we want it to look nice.
